Recommended Posts

Well I did not get any Fluid out. I was very frustrated but I am making this work out. I feel I have been able to eat a little better. For a week it was almost nothing and it was getting to me. I can now eat a little, I've lost 8 lbs since the fill 12 days ago. Yeah 8 I am happy about that. I've lost like 12 in three weeks toatl. I neede dthat after a long dry spell.

Bobby, I'm right there with you! I haven't been able to eat any solids and really struggle with liquids. I have lost 13.3 pounds in less than a week! I am happy about the loss (finally), but I sure wish this fill would loosen up a bit.

Yes I agree with Pat. please be careful. Nutrition is so important and if you are not eating enough it will take it's toll. Not to mention dehydration. I have been there and it is not fun..I became dehydrted and malnourished according to the CBC I had done when I had esophagitis and was only on liquids. If you can not eat solids then you are too tgiht, the band was designed to be able to eat solids.

Not wanting to eat solids is a patients choice, not being able to eat solids is a different matter and needs medical attention, this came from Orti'z book.

If the patient wants to eat solids and every time the patient tries to eat solids, it comes back up, this is due to either a tighter fill then needed or something has triggered a swelling of the stomach wall. This can only be resolved by deflating of the band. If the restriction is too tight the band will damage the stomach lining futher and the patient will be forced on a liquid diet. More importantly this can trigger a major complication such as slippage..another excerpt form Ortiz's book

Ortiz interviews Dr. Martinez

Q. Most patients want a very tight fill. What is your opinion on this?

A. I consider a very fine line between being correctly adjusted and too tight. If patients are eating solid food and can not tolerate even third of their former intake they aredefinately too tight.

Q. Are there any risks involved in having the band too tight?

A. Yes absolutely, we have seen slips develop after a band that was too tight and not loosened promptly.

Please both of you be careful we all care about you both here ..yes the weight loss is great but it is not safe for your band or your body to not be able to eat solids . It is not supposed to be this way..

PLEASE dont risk your band to try to *work* with a to tight fill! if you are so tight you are struggling with liquids or mushies then you are only 1 pb away from being closed off and making a trip to the er.

you are risking dehydration, which can make you vomit

i know you may not want to give any of your restriction up but LITERALLY -.1 cc or -.2 cc can make all the difference in the world!

take care of yourselves and your band!

who had to suck it up and get 2 unfills!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
