Stretch pouch???

Recommended Posts

How do you know if you've stretched your pouch. I had the band on December 11th and I'm eating about 50-75% of what I did before. I haven't had a fill yet. Does that have anything to do with this? Help! I'm worried! I haven't had any discomfort or anything. I feel like I never had surgery!:help:

It is highly unlikely that you have stretched your pouch when you have no fill. You have no discomfort and no symptoms, so don't assume the worst. I'm sure you will be going in for a check-up or fill soon and that will hopefully ease your mind. Before you have a fill, you have little restriction and therefore can eat larger quantities. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Be careful and measure your servings and count your calories until you get a fill. Best of health!

You can always manage to stretch your pouch regardless of how much fill is in there. The looser you are probably does make it more difficult because food can continue to slip through at a faster rate, but the pouch is only so big regardless of the fill level since it sits above the band.

Now, I don't know what it feels like but I know that if you eat to the point of feeling "full" on a regular basis that's a sure-fire way to do the stretching. It doesn't sound like that's what you are doing though. So, just continue to follow the rules and only eat until satisfied and you will most likely be fine!

I guess I should clarify...I said it was highly unlikely, not impossible. I realize that you can always stretch your pouch. I had a slip even though I was unfilled, so I am not saying it is impossible.

I was able to eat about 75% of my pre-op diet again 3 weeks post-op also. That came to a quick end w/ my 1st fill. My doctor filled my band about 1/2 way the 1st time, and I'm feeling great restriction right now. Don't worry...I think what you're feeling is normal and common for a lot of new banders...I've read it a lot on here. It could also take a few fills to get good restriction unless your dr. is aggressive w/ your fills. Good luck!!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
