Drinking..not sipping

Recommended Posts

Officially 7 days post gastric bypass 🎉

I'm feeling very well aside from incision tenderness. What concerns me though is that I can drink a 16oz Gatorade in under an 1hr with no issues.

Is that normal? or safe??

I was able to hit all my hydration goals, from the first night in the hospital. I've never had any restriction when it comes to liquids. Be happy, it means that you won't get dehydrated - a major cause of complications for us. :)

Right away I was always able to drink as fast as I wanted and how much I wanted. Although I had little appetite, I didn't "feel" restriction until I got to solids.

It's when you can't take in Water that there's a problem (example, stricture). You're good. Congrats on your surgery.

Yess it's safe. Water just goes through now so you're not hurting yourself or anything. Glad you're having an easy time getting your water in!

This is good to know as I'm so thirsty and I can drink easily but didn't want to overdo it.

One of my concerns about WLS has been taking sips vs gulps, especially since I typically need extra fluids to swallow pills. I appreciate this post and all the feedback. I hope I fall into the category of being able to drink more Water, although it sounds uncommon. In March during an upper GI where they ruled out Barrett's Esophagus and reflux issues, they dilated my esophagus. Two weeks later my esophagus returned to its previous slightly narrow state. I was cleared for surgery - my choice of either sleeve or bypass, so that's good. I plan to get some chewable supplements, but the extra gulps would certainly help. (Sleeve surgery scheduled for late July.)

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
