2 weeks post op, is a 5oz Oikos too much?

Recommended Posts

I’m 2 weeks post op today and smack in the middle of the purées stage. Trying to get my Protein is a struggle without shakes, but working on it. Tried an Oikos Triple Zero smooth yogurt today. They are 5.2oz. Is that too much at this stage? I ate about 4oz in 30 mins, feel fine. Do any of you finish the 5oz?

If you can finish, you absolutely should for the nutrition. Hit that Protein goal! You're eating so few calories it doesn't matter! That's my opinion anyway! I'm almost 6 weeks out from bypass.

Thanks, Jonathan! Congrats on your bypass. I hope you’re doing well!

Just go slowly. Better to eat a yoghurt over an hour or so than be too low with your Protein. I often took an hour to eat (I still often take 30-45+ mins to eat a meal or snack including yoghurt). It’s so thin it does go through your quite tummy quickly (not as fast as a liquid if course). You could always eat it slowly over a whole day (like grazing) if that feels more comfortable than eating that volume in one go.

I think it’s fine, I eat them all the time. I’m 4 weeks out.

I can eat 5-6oz in a meal w/out issue.

True! The yogurt is pretty smooth. I think I could have finished the container, but after 30 or so minutes I was scared I might stretch my new tummy. I think that’s my biggest fear while trying to “feel” my way through the last two weeks. Thank you for your thoughts!

Phew! That’s a relief to hear. Thank you Fred! 🙏

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
