I’m over a year and a half out I drink a little whiskey here and there but after I drink it I get a lot of pain in my stomach does anyone else get this?

I have just had 5 boozy days away with friends. I was careful not to overdo it but got a bit tipsy most days and had no pain. I diluted my drinks well with a diet mixer and drank slower than everyone else. One evening I had a glass of Prosecco that gave me awful reflux, so I have crossed that one off my list.

Try a different drink or have a glass of milk or a piece of cheese before the whisky and see if that helps

Interesting.

As someone that until my surgery last month, enjoyed a nice cigar and a good bourbon once or twice a month, my Surgeon has already given me the green light to resume an occassional cigar. But I do intend to pair that with a small glass of Bourbon after a year.

What kind of whiskey are you drinking? I am sure you know the varients are distilled using differnet mashes. For example, Scoth is primary barley, Bourbon & Tennesse uses cornmash, most Irish use blended grains, and of course Rye Whiskey is made from Rye mash. Not mention all of the different distilling techiniques and use of copper or oak barrells. In other words...a lot variance.

So I'm wondering if you tried different types and still ended up with the same issue? Are you drinking neat or with water/mixer? With a chaser?

Maybe a direct irritant effect of concentrated alcohol on your stomach lining? I do drink alcohol (one year out from my sleeve) but it's mainly wine (11% as opposed to the 40% in spirits) and luckily I haven't had any ill effects.

Also, as Old Salt says - new food intolerances aren't uncommon after bariatric surgery. Might be worth changing around the type of whiskey that you drink to check whether another might suit you better!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
