How Long for you?

Recommended Posts

So I have a few friends that did the sleeve (I'm 3 weeks out) and I've been telling them my left side hurts alot especially when getting up/moving. They both had the same pain apparently the largest incision where the stomach is pulled from.....1 friend 2 years later still has some pain the other 5 years out and is fine now. So my question is how long did it take ypu to be pain free if you had this same issue? TiA

I didn’t have any incision pain but I would think it would resolve after a few months at least. two years out if I still had pain I would be asking my dr to make sure that everything healed correctly (have they mentioned it at their followup visits?). I have been hanging out around here for over a year and I haven’t heard of anyone else mention pain that far out I don’t think. Maybe others will say differently but It can’t hurt to give a quick call and make sure that’s typical or at least mention at their next follow up.

Yeah I was shocked too when she said that...hence why I'm asking here..we were all done by the same surgeon..ur so lucky not to have had incision pain...wish it was me

It really should resolve shortly. I think for most people it’s more like a few weeks or a month. Of course I have seen some it lasted a little longer.

Right the outer incisions are good but it's inside that's causing pain. Hoping some others will share their experiences [emoji120]

It took about two months to be rid of the pain. I had pain near one of my incision sites on the left side of my abdomen. I told my surgeon about it and he checked it out and said that I had a seroma. (Build up of water). Water clot? He said the pain/water would be dispersed and it would get better. Seromas are not uncommon after major surgery.

If you have pain please check back in with the surgeon.

I guess I am a lucky one then.....I had no incision pain and no problems or complications at all. That being said I "think" I am lactose intolerant now tho because if I drink milk or eat dairy I get really really sick. I had no issue with that before surgery but do now after surgery. But surgery itself no problems.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
