I am one month post op and I am unhappy with my decision to have bypass surgery. My family and friends continue to tell me I’ll feel happy later on when I loose all the weight and doctors keep telling me eventually I’ll feel normal again. But I feel like there is no end in sight. Im not happy, constantly in pain, hungry but i can’t eat, thirsty but i can’t drink. I was excited before the surgery and wish I was happy now. Did anyone else feel this way? I feel alone when I talk to the few people I know that have had this surgery because they’re all very happy with their weight loss.

The 1st couple of months are the hardest thing you will ever do in your life!!!! You have sent your body into shock! Hormones are dumping into your system like crazy! Your hair will be falling out! Your skin won’t know if if should be oily or dry! Your body is going on the wildest ride of it’s life, it’s crazier then childbirth! But in 6 months I want you to come back and tell us how you feel! You will have more energy then you know what to do with! You will be excited because the clothes in your closet will be falling off of you! You will be shopping in a whole different area of the store! You will have to get a ring guard so your rings don’t fall off of you! You will be able to shave your legs & paint your toenails and tie your shoes! You won’t feel uncomfortable exercising!

The world is gonna open up & you will forget how awful the 1st couple of months were!
You gotta trust all the reasons you ever thought of having the surgery in the 1st place.

If you haven't already you may want to consider taking to a counseller or a therapist, this sounds like something that may fester within you and may cause you to sabotage yourself.

As @toodlerue says the beginning is awful. We dont realise how big a surgery this is and how it will change us. I had buyers remorse as do many others but it passes. Contact your team again and tell them you are still struggling. It will get better once you reach your daily quotas

I was exactly the same for the first month or so, it’s a huge adjustment to your body and mind. Honestly it will get better. I’m now 5 months out, 6 stone down and feel so much better. I can drink more now, eat a little more, my Iron levels have gone up and I now have more energy. It’s so nice to be able to shop in normal shops and not be the fattest person in the room. Get your iron and B12 levels checked and make sure you are taking all of your Vitamins properly and you will start to feel better xx

I see many people who have buyers remorse at least until they are back eating normal. Your hormones are out of whack too. If it gets too bad reach out to a therapist.

I just saved this for me to read during the tough times (I know they are all part of it) after surgery. Thank you so much for this.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
