Hello everyone.

I am just curious about this. How long did it take for others to go from the initial visit of paperwork to receiving their surgery date?

I went for my initial visit in March and have a surgery date for June 17. I have BCBS and they required 3 consecutive months of appointments before surgery could be scheduled. My surgeon's office scheduled everything: sleep apnea at home test & consult, nutritionist, blood work, psych eval and EKG. I also had to meet with a dietitian but my surgery had already been scheduled so it was pointless.

I have UHC and I was required to do a 6 month program. Started in November, surgery is Monday.

It took me about 6 months. I had already satisfied one month of my weigh ins so I had to do 5 of those and then about one more month till my surgery date.

I started the process mid January and go for surgery June 20th so that’s about 5 months. Initially my insurance required 5% weight loss, then it changed to 1 pound weight loss and 6 months of nutrition visits, then it changed to 1 pound weight loss and 3 months.

I had my first appt April 30th, 2019 and my VSG surgery was December 17, 2019. My surgeon’s office had me meet with and get signed off by my GP, a cardiologist (that I now see every 6 months!), a therapist for psychiatric evaluation, a dietitian, and a pulmonologist who recommended I get genetic testing.

I have BCBS IL and it is a 3 month process for me. One nutritionist appointment a month with no weight gain, a psych evaluation, lab work with an H. pylori test, documented 3 year weight history, and a letter of medical necessity from primary care doctor. If insurance approves after everything then my surgery date will be sometime in August/September.

I have Kaiser GA. Started program June 2021, did 6 months of requirements. Completed surgery March 2022, due to Covid delays.

I have Medicaid and it’s a 6 month waiting period. There is lots to get done during that time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
