Period Irregularity post surgery

Recommended Posts

So i had my sleeve surgery last Monday, the 16th. I had my regularly scheduled period May 6-10th. Today it started again. No pain, no cramping, none of my usual symptoms. Is this my body resetting itself? Is this because the weight loss released estrogen into my system and my plumbing needed to be flushed? My OB/GYN was zero help with this and I’m just looking to see if anyone else experienced this. Please don’t flood me with “call the surgeon” because I’m not necessarily concerned, just looking to see if this has happened to others. I see him tomorrow for my post op as well.

It can happen and does happen due to the hormonal changes that you have been going through since the operation. It's one of those things that you never hear about until it happens to you. Fingers crossed that it will settle again.

Oestrogen is stored in your fat & as you lose weight, the oestrogen is released into your blood stream & messes up your usual cycle: heavier, lighter, more or less frequent, more or fewer PMT symptoms. It may continue for a few months. Plus the stress of the surgery can throw things out of whack too so you)43 being hit from two directions. .

PS - the extra oestrogen can make you extra fertile too so some surgeons recommend doubling up on contraception.

Mine was messed up for a few months post surgery. Returned to normal the fourth month I think.

Thanks everyone ! My surgeon confirmed it's normal and I should see some regularity around month three! My OB/GYN is a bit of a dingbat. She's never been very helpful in the past so I'm not surprised she was no help.

This is a no baby zone!!! We will definitely double up on the contraception.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
