Had my pre OP endoscopy.. Never had one before and never been put out....

Day and a half later I have been dealing with MASSIVE jaw pain... and serious bloating in my upper abs.... Is this normal? Anyone else have this issue??

I have only had one pre surgery too but I had no issues. Just sleeping for the day and was back to normal the next day. Weird.

Sorry to hear this. I have never had one either but I dont imagine you should feel like this. You need to go to see a doctor who will know if its rough handling or needing antibiotics. Ring somebody.

odd. I had one last year an endoscopy and colonoscopy. yea they pump you full of air but that only lasted for me a couple hours after. I had to fart and burp to get it out lol but no jaw issues

I had an endoscopy and don't remember any gassiness or bloating. My throat was a little sore afterwards (understandable) but beyond that nothing. And I was half awake during most of it...!

I've had a number of them over the years, and haven't had any such problems; typically, one might have a bit of a sore throat for a while (can happen anytime they stick things down there, whether endoscopy, intubation, etc.) The jaw sounds like they may have been a bit ham-fisted with moving things around to get the scope in. Most of the time, I have had a plug that I bite on (like a baby's pacifier) with a hole in it that they pass the endoscope through, and they strap the jaw closed around it (so it doesn't move when you're under anesthesia).

The bloating seems a bit odd - they do inflate the stomach to see around in there (same with the colon in a colonoscopy) but that usually comes out quickly with a bit of belching, if I have noticed at all. When they do the actual surgery, they do inflate your abdomen to give them working space, and that can take a couple of days to work out as there is no direct vent to the outside world as there is in your GI tract.

yeah I would see someone ( medical professional) or call the place where you got it done and ask if anything happened that you need to be aware of while you were under and explain why you are asking. you shouldn't be having these issues. like everyone else has said a bit of a sore throat, farting and burping should be all you experience after that procedure.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
