Do you have any other signs of dehydration such as dark urine? If so, getting IV fluids may help with the nausea quite a bit. I thought this was going to be a big deal and I would wind up back in the hospital but when I spoke to my team they arranged for me to get fluids as an out patient It was no big deal at all and I felt tons better afterwards.

I was very dehydrated. I'm currently in hospital unfortunately going through several tests but I'm on fluids and it has definitely helped alot. Im really glad things got sorted out for you so efficiently too! Fingers crossed everything will be okay and I'll be out soon!

I’m dealing with the nausea and just past 2 weeks post op. Just wondering if this eventually resolved for you. Right now I’m miserable and hoping I get over it soon

I have had the nausea for a long time. Ask the doc for a prescription. If the dosage isn't enough, tell him. I had mine upped several times.

Hello. Sorry I've only just seen this. Yes it did resolve thankfully. I ended up in hospital 3 times but at the 8 week mark I got alot better. Focus on getting liquids first because I ended up really dehydrated. I remember thinking what have a done to myself and really regretting it. Now I'm 9 stone lighter and it was the best decision I have ever made. Any doubts make an appointment with your doctor for help with anti nausea medication. I was on it for a while but I don't use it anymore. It really helped at the time though.

I am 3 1/2 months out, and have struggled with nausea/queasiness every day. They say it will get better, but not yet. There ARE meds-ask your doctor! I am on two different ones, and after a couple of months, started taking more of them than prescribed--after looking them up and finding out his dosage was on the low end, and I was not going to poison myself. Call your doc-and be VOCAL!

Hi There, I'm about 7 weeks out and have been nauseous after eating since week 3. It started before Thanksgiving and has only gotten worse. Did yours ever go away? They are telling me the same thing, that "it will go away" but I'm afraid I have a stricture or ulcer of something. I haven't really been able to go past soft foods because when I try to graduate up to solid foods, my nausea is worse. Last night, I tried again and my nausea lasted through today. This has been terrible. I have an appt. next week to see if they will do some radiology to make sure I don't have a stricture or ulcer but I feel for you as well having this everyday. Any update on how you are and what prompted your nausea everyday would be really helpful. Did you ever get any radiology?

Hi Laura, I've been very nauseous and wondering if I'm dehydrated since week 3. I've tried to get all my liquids and usually don't go below 50 oz. How did you know you were so dehydrated? I've been looking for the signs but wonder if I need bloodwork to really know. I hope you are still doing well. I'm at that "I think I'm regretting it stage".

Thanks.

Laura

I hope you are doing much better, did your nausea every go away? I'm 7 months post op and I've had nausea since week 3. I only have Zofran and my surgeon isn't overly helpful. What medication did they up for you?

Thanks.

Hi Laura

Sorry to hear you are feeling so unwell. I know how horrible it is. I definitely understand the 'what have I done!?' stage. I ended up in hospital 3 times. Had all sorts of tests, swallowing x-rays, CT scan and nothing came back. The final time I ended up in hospital I was in a state, I'd lost the feelings in my legs and was not with it mentally at all. Luckily, I had a great doctor who recognised my symptoms as a thiamine deficiency. I was in malnutrition. Had all the blood work and everything was low, potassium, Calcium Iron. Was in hospital for a week and was put on lots of IV drips and anti nausea medication and within a week I was able to stand and eat soft foods again. What happened to me was rare so I'm not suggesting this is what's happening at all, so please don't worry. A lot of my nausea was from dehydration too but because I couldn't keep liquids down so it was a viscous circle. All I can say is I'm 9 months out now, 184lbs lighter and I have no regrets at all. It was a horrible start but I can eat what I want now (within reason no sugar or high fat) just much smaller amounts. I now how horrible this first part is so please bare with it. Im glad you have a doctor's appointment soon. The anti nausea meds definitely helped and time, which is unbearable to hear when you just want it gone now. Good luck and try if you can to stay positive.

Thanks for your detailed reply Laura. I'm so sorry to hear how awful all of that was for you but I'm so happy you had a good doctor that could figure it out. Yes, I'm hoping to have the x-rays etc., as my nausea is happening when I eat and some when I drink. From everything I've heard this sounds like a stricture but my surgeon is on maternity leave and has completely negated what I've said and just says it will get better. Unfortunately, it's getting worse. I'm seeing another surgeon in her practice next week. Will let you know what I find out. Thanks again so much!

Hi, Laura. I had really severe nausea and couldn't eat or drink. I was full of buyers remorse, I paid to suffer like this. I was miserable. I had problems over the Christmas period getting through to any doctor, due to Covid. The helpline 111 was swamped and it was a full 6 weeks before I got help. I was very wobbly, dizzy and weak I finally got help via my own doctor and got prescribed Lansoprazole capsules twice a day to begin with. I would have one in bed about 6am. It coats my stomach and really works. The second one I took about 5pm so it had time to work before my evening meal. I only take the morning one now. When I got to about 9 weeks, things really improved for me and I am getting on great now. I have occasional nausea but it passes.

I have always loved Heinz chicken Soup, so I strained it and tolerated it really well early on. I had Bovril, milk, fruit ice lollies and milky coffee when ever I could tolerate anything. TBH I have only recently reached my liquid and Protein goals. I am walking every day and getting better at it. I am 62 so a late starter at this. My husband was really worried about me early on but I think it was so worth it. No matter that I was so ill, I would do this again in a heartbeat. Ask me anything. I am here for you

Hi there. So good to hear that you improved. I have the worst nausea ever. It’s horrific. It’s depressing me so much

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
