I have never had them but I’m pretty sure you get them from eating too much. Are you stopping at the first sign of restriction.

Hey guys... I'm 3 weeks out on mushy foods and today I went for a long walk and since I got back everything I eat or drink comes back up... It's like a thick white foam and saliva.. What did I do to myself?

Hummmm…I’m sure someone else who actually experienced it has more advice but if you haven’t tried it maybe slow down taking more time in between sips.

Are you on reflux medication? If not maybe you should ask you surgeon about getting some for the short term.

Yes, from my experience, I had them quite a bit the first 3 months... Then they began tapering off. By 6 months, they were gone.

Foamies usually occur because you eat too much, too fast or eat food that is too dry or coarse. The excess or food that is stuck sort of bubbles up with lots of saliva. Which doesn’t really apply to you at your stage. Sounds more like you’re just plain vomiting. It’s painful because all your muscles are already strained from the surgery & your internal stitches & sutures. You could also have lots of gunk in your tummy from the surgery & maybe some excess acid which is making you nauseous &/or you’re vomiting it up. Some vomit it up while some have foul smelling diarrhoea because they get rid of it that way.

Definitely contact your surgeon though to be sure. Did they prescribe anti nausea meds?

Feel better soon.

Talk to your surgeon, over here in Australia it' is standard that patients take nexium or something similar for the first 6 months while your tummy heals.

I'll still get them if I eat something my stomach doesn't like, even 3 years post WLS (sleeve). My stomach doesn't like tortilla wraps, potatoes, or Pasta.

I got the foamies in the first month during my puree phase, when I was in a lot of pain from the drains and staples. Once the drains, staples, and attendant pain subsided, so did the foamies.

For me, the foamies never seemed to relate to overeating or eating to quickly. I related it more to stress and pain.

Been a lot of years since the foamies.

Good luck,

Tek

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
