I’m curious… how/when did you guys get your surgery dates? I’ve been really hoping to have surgery in June because school will be out, but I’m not sure what to expect.

I’m self pay, in Virginia, and my doctors office wants me to complete 3 diet visits (my last is in May) What should I expect next? I was hoping then I would move straight into the pre op diet phase and get a surgery date.

I'm self pay and doing my procedure in Mexico. The physician once approved had the coordinator send over all available dates. I would have been able to do this last month or this month at the time of my approval, but my mom decided she also wanted to do the procedure at the same time. Her clearance was more involved as she had to have an EKG which led to needing to see a cardiologist who said she was fine but wanted her to have an echo done to be certain. SO...after having months of delay, by the time we were both approved, the soonest available was June 15. My oldest daughter(14) happens to be out of town that week, so we pushed it back to the following week, so she could be around to help with the youngest(3) while I was out of the country.

RaisnHL- I had to complete my 6 months of medically supervised dieting with a dietician, psych eval, EDG, blood work and pre-op clearance from my PCP before they scheduled my surgery date. I was told it typically takes 6 weeks for insurance authorization so they tentatively schedule you 6 weeks out. I also had have a phone call with a financial coordinator to discuss the cost and payment of the surgery.

Hi, Emily:

My pre-procedure experience sounds similar to yours. I, however, had to do an echocardiogram stress test and I had to wait 2 weeks for an appointment for that. I did an at-home sleep study, and then somehow something ran off the rails. A CPAP machine was supposed to be ordered for me and a couple of weeks elapsed before that slip-up was discovered.

My surgeon's admin told me on Tuesday that Cigna takes about 2 weeks to go through an insurance submission. Apparently, the practice I am using has an Insurance Coordinator who goes through everything in my file to be certain that CIGNA gets every piece of paper required. I'm just waiting now.

Good luck to you.

Hi! Happy to say that after almost 2 years of following in a weight loss medicine clinic and doing preop testing (slowed down by COVID) with this goal in mind I FINALLY have my surgery date of June 1!! Preop diet of 4 shakes and 1 meat/veg meal starts 2 weeks prior. Happy to find a forum of friends to talk with.

I finally used the CPAP for the first time after getting it last week. It was very simple to set up. I didn’t love it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ One if the dogs stared at me for a very long time when I put on the mask.
DH was already asleep when I got the thing hooked up, but he mentioned that he he didn’t hear me snoring the way he typically does.
I wore it while playing candy crush before I went to sleep and removed it after 4 hours and some minutes.

My surgery is tentatively set for 6/6 pending insurance. My biggest struggle right now is my surgeon wants no Protein Shakes. All whole food. I don’t know how many eggs I can eat.

My husband has a CPAP and hasn’t worn it in about a year because it was a nuisance to keep clean and the on and off ten times a night when he gets up to use the restroom.

I will say that it was very beneficial for the time he wore it. For both of us! He was waking up more rested as was I as he was no longer snoring!

Have they given you a list of what you can have that isn’t eggs? Eggs are pretty versatile though and there are lots of ways to cook them, so hopefully you won’t get too bored.

June 30th here for the RNY. I am extremely nervous! Especially since my appt with the surgeon about possible complications. Trying to be positive but I’m terrified!

Did your surgeon give a rational or cite any medical evidence for using this approach? Or is this a case-by-case thing he's chosen for you? Feel free not to answer if too personal a question.

Have you tried playing with the temperature and humidity settings? Once I got my air a little cooler and increased the humidity so my mouth wouldn't dry out I found mine much more tolerable! And the decrease in stroke and heart attack risk from wearing it is a big selling point for me. At this point I've been wearing it every night for 2+ years and I get a sore throat if I sleep without it. Idk what I'll do if I lose a bunch of weight and no longer qualify for it. It's comforting. I hope you find a way for it to work for you, I know they always ask at every appointment whether I'm wearing it every night.

CPAP: haven’t tried playing with anything yet. I’m just making sure I don’t get wrapped up in tubing. 😂🤣
My scores are getting better, and I’m going to try it tonight for the whole night. I’ll see how it goes.

My Results visit from pre-procedure testing is 2 weeks from today, 5/16. My doctor said to start the LSD (liver shrinking diet) tomorrow. I’m hoping for a 6/10 or 6/13 surgery date.
I’m SO ready for this!

ETA:  I just went into my Cigna patient account and they have received my paperwork for the Endoscopy approval and the Gastric Bypass surgery approval. They have a ‘service’ date of 5/20 which the doctor’s admin told me she was putting on the paperwork even though I am going to wait till school is out which is more like 6/9-6/13.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
