How long for incision pain?

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I had RNY on 3/1. The pain has gotten progressively better, but I’m still having pain mid-stomach at the largest incision (not the incision itself - internal pain) when I move, bend, or reach certain ways. I’m scared that I ripped something inside 😒 I haven’t had fever, nausea, vomiting or anything else, so hoping it’s just still “settling.” My post op appt got moved to this coming Wednesday. Anyone else have tales of post-op pain taking a while?

I had RNY on 3/3, so I'm two days behind you, but -- yeah, I still have plenty of abdominal pain, which seems to be both internal and external. It's major surgery, and I didn't expect healing to be complete in a week. If you're not having any other symptoms of trouble, just take your meds, the most important one being a healthy dose of Tincture of Time. Good luck!

Thank you! Good to know we’re close in this journey. Hope you are feeling better by the day. And good point - I think I’ve tried to downplay the major surgery part 🙃

It’s easy to look at the small incisions and try to minimize the surgery, but it’s definitely Major surgery.

Yep, it’s easy to look at those tiny external incisions & forget about all the internal sutures & staples holding your digestive system together. Don’t forget all the muscles that were stretched & strained & organs that were pushed about during the surgery too. Yes time heals all things but if the pain persists or worsens, contact your surgeon or go to your closest medical centre.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
