I had mine yesterday as well. I agree with the others about the gas pains! At first I felt like was dying, but the pain is slowly subsiding.

I’m doing pretty good. RYGB on 4/12. Still some soreness in the left side. Moved to purée today.. big letdown half a scrambled egg for Breakfast and mashed potatoes for dinner. Two bites and I was good. My taste is different for sure. Will try again tomorrow!

I feel like I can drink more than a average patient. I am 2 days post op (4/25/22) and can get almost my full 64 oz and 60-80 grams of Protein in. I do get burps after drinking but I get it regardless if I sip those 1 oz cups into 4s or just half it. Hope that makes sense. I am dealing with really bad pain on the right side of my stomach incision but I believe that’s where the DR pulled the stomach out.

I’m 8 days out but yea I’ve been the same way can drink a ton. Also can gulp it down which I thought I could never do. I have my follow up with my surgeon tomorrow I’m gonna ask him about it.

My surgery went well today. I'm sipping, walking, and trying my best to get rid of the surgical gas and pain. I should be going home tomorrow. I'm feeling anything but some pressure. If anybody has some tips or suggestions, I would be happy to read them.

Congratulations! The walking is really the key to getting rid of the gas pains. Move around in bed as well. It normally takes up to day 3-4 to really feel like they are gone. Keep sipping and just know this will all be a distant memory soon. My doctor wanted us to do enough laps around the nurses station to equate a mile before going home. I thought she was crazy until I walked beyond that and really felt stronger and less gas pain every time. I slept in my recliner night one at home then I was able to use pillows for comfort. It was no time and I am sleeping on my belly and side. My RNY was 4-5. I feel amazing!!

Hi everyone… I had my surgery April 13. Dr told me I could start eating foods after check up 5 days post surgery but I am having a lot of trouble eating much of anything. Drinking is hard too- don’t know how I will get to 64 oz. Also- anyone else having trouble with the Vitamins? chewable Multi Vitamins made me sick today. This is hard!

That is fantastic! I had my VSG Monday (4/25) also. I drank 64 oz of fluids np but have not tried Protein yet. Tomorrow I start full liquids but my dr said not to worry about counting Proteins yet. He said as long as I drink a lot and take the Multi Vitamins I should be fine. He said 20 oz of protein if I can stomach it, I am a Little worried about Hair loss though. Crazy how each Docs recs are so different! How is your pain level? Mine is tolerable but tough to find a comfy position in bed. Wishing you and all a good recovery!

I guess I was lucky because I was extremely uncomfortable in the hospital but once home pain was not really an issue. I did take my pain pill every 6 hrs as prescribed for the first 5 or so days. Also did your dr give you a binder? That was a huge help to me. I wore a long tank or night gown with the binder securely fitted on top when sleeping and it really protected my incisions. Also when sleeping on my side I placed a pillow under my stomach to support it. Wishing you (and everyone else) great luck as well!

You are right this is hard! But worth the effort. My doc started me out sipping 1 ounce every 15 minutes, it seemed crazy at first but the small sips were comfortable. I am 3 weeks out (RNY) and drinking 52-64 oz a day comfortably now. I keep my drinks varied. Plain Water is of course the best. As far as food goes, go slow. Introduce 1 food at a time 1-2 tbls. at a meal. I was on Clear Liquids for 2 Wk post op. Most of us went from clear liquids to purée. I am using a lil baby spoon and a lil seafood fork to keep my bites small. As for Vitamins, they are very important post op because our nutrition is so limited. You can try a Bariatric High Protein Meal Replacement like Bariatric Advantage for a lil extra nutrition in your Protein Drinks. Talk to your doc or dietitian Re your challenges. This will pass. Keep trying, but go slow.

I am having a lot of pain in the shoulders & chest & collarbone. I have to lay on my back with a pillow under my butt and that seems

to stop the pain going to my shoulders. They told me to not take my Vitamins until the 2 week mark. Good luck too!!

Your taste will completely change. You will eventually have cravings, but they will subside. Just stay off the grease and sugar... you don't want to dump.... Not a good feeling...

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
