Water and Protein Intake

Recommended Posts

Hi!
I am 6 days post-op from the gastric bypass. I lost 14lbs so far which is super exciting since I can’t remember the last time I had lost this much weight. I am now drinking Protein Shakes and Water but i am honestly struggling with that. I can’t seem to drink enough water or Protein a day. It’s just that I get so incredibly full and I can’t seem to stomach anything more. I’m not pushing myself and i’m listening to my body but I don’t want to become dehydrated. Does anybody have any suggestions with how to drink more water and protein? Anything and everything helps!

I am 4 days post op and I literally sip Water ALL DAY LONG. I recommend getting different flavors of shakes. The only shakes I drink are Bariatric Fusion brand and Premier Protein. Having a variety of flavors helps me not to get bored. My hardest shake to drink is my dinner. Today and yesterday I used the chicken noodle Soup Protein power. I add 6oz of Water and 2 oz chicken brother with a teaspoon of stained cream of chicken Soup. When I make make shakes I add 8oz of lactaid and 2 oz of water. Takes a little longer to drink, but I end of getting more fluids. It helps to have something warm and savory. Plus it will add yo your fluids. Just sip sip sip all day long. I also drink 0 sugar Protein Gatorade. It helps you get in your fluids and protein without drinking a shake. I also mix the unflavored protein in my Jello and pudding. Just keep sipping.

Yep, sipping all day long is the only way I could do it too. I used to dilute my Protein Shake to make it more palatable & for extra Fluid. I’d sip on it for 3 or 4 hours. Same with the Soup I’d eat. (Popped the soup in the microwave to reheat it as it cooled.) You’ll find it does get easier as you progress. And yes all liquids count to your fluid goal.

Congrats on your loss so far.

Protein Water. I double-up on both my protein and water that way, without feeling like an overfilled balloon all day. And as others have suggested, just keep taking a mouthful of water every five minutes or so. It gets easier with time.

I did the 2 ounces cups. Lined up 4, 3 with Water, and 1 with Protein Shake. Drank 1 every 15 minutes on a timer.

This is what I did as well. Those little 2oz bathroom paper cups were a lifesaver the first week. After that it got much easier.

I’m about a month and a half out from bypass and I haven’t had any issue drinking enough. I was expecting to feel an issue if I drink too much, or too fast but it’s been suspiciously easy. Hope I’m not hurting myself.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
