Had the sleeve Dec 22 started liquids today threw them up so they are keeping me another night in the hospital. I just took a sip very very small of Water and threw it up again I just don’t feel this is normal

I had that feeling the next day too. Try to walk as much as you can to get the gas out. I think the gas and pain meds were making me feel sick. I preferred crystal light lemonade to Water after the surgery. The day after was the worst for me. You should be feeling better tomorrow. Hang in there!

Hi there -

First post ever! I had surgery on the 15th of December, released from the hospital on December 16th. Feel pretty good - but having a lot of trouble with the Protein requirement which is making me very tired and weak. I hate the shakes and got permission from my surgeon to drink the Protein Water instead. Now I'm beginning to develop an aversion to that.

I go back to the doctor on the 27th. I'm hoping - hoping! - he'll release me then to start eating soft foods. I'm still on liquids only.

How quickly were you able to eat soft foods? I see a lot of people eating eggs and yogurt far more quickly than the 2 weeks I've been told. Also, how soon do you start to feel...."normal" again? I just feel so weak and fuzzy.

I had the same protein aversion. My tip, fill a cup halfway with ice and Water, then fill the rest with the protein water. It’s not a super high amount but it helped my weakness and I cold actually drink it. I had my surgery 12/10. I have weak days and normal days. I realize that if I consume half a Protein Shake within half hour of waking I’ll have a better day. This after I was able to actually drink the shakes

I agree with MayMay21. I just had surgery on Monday 12/20.... but my first day and a half home I was so weak and nauseated that trying to drink Protein Shakes made me vomit almost immediately . So the last 2 mornings I've started slowly with one water then, 15 minutes later I switch to a mix of half ounce water & a half ounce Protein Shake for most of the rest of the day. I've been able to keep it down and now I feel much better...no more weakness, dizziness or nausea. Good luck!

I had it done on the 22nd and home on 23rd. I get nauseous as well still on clear liquid until tomorrow. Hope you feel better soon.

I went through that as well.

I still was home the next day.

The worse for me is the gas trapped in my body going up to my left shoulder.

So far I'm only trying Water sips and broth sips.

Both make me nauseous 😫.

The thought of consuming anything else makes me afraid I'll mess up my incisions.

I’m scheduled for the sleeve December 28th. I started pre op The 22nd. No Christmas candy, Cookies and my much loved Prime Rib. I had no Thanksgiving either.. I was in the hospital with blood clots in my leg. I’m going to Las Vegas in April. I’m worried about what I could eat. A lot of people claim they could eat anything after four months but I don’t want to get sick eating something I shouldn’t.

Since you already had surgery.. please tell me everything I should know. 😀😀

Thanks so much.. Betsy

I would take chapstick your mouth will be so dry they give you things to swab your mouth out but the first 24 hours it’s like cotton balls in your mouth. I rinsed and spit with Water do not swollen it the first day. I think the roughest part for me is I’m allergic to all pain meds so the first 23-36 hours was the most painful for me. The shower was amazing and helped me so much. The nausea is there even with meds but throwing up hurt so incredibly bad. When they start you in clears if you get sick ask for some anti-vomit medication they put in your iv and works super fast. Oh the other this is ice, ice, ice packs it makes you cold but ice packs saved me im still using them. Bring a pillow to put over your tummy so the seat belt doesn’t touch you on the way home. Good luck

I had mine the 15th. Struggling really hard on my post op liquid diet. I feel great and feel like I can eat whatever I want but I know I can't. I got a bypass and the post op diet is STRICT. how are yall doing post op? Any tips?

Hi! I got mines on the 10th but mines was the sleeve. I certainly cannot eat anything other than puddings, applesauce and liquids. The Protein Shakes are difficult so I’m taking liquid vitamins and Protein. I must admit, I tried eating something I wasn’t supposed to eat and I was sick as a dog so I won’t push it and Im sticking to the plan. As of to date, I am 16.8lbs down and I’m feeling great. Best wishes to you☺️

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
