Sleeved Feb 2021 and still having discomfort eating and drinking. Not able to eat one whole egg yet and too much of a gulp of Water hurts. I've developed some unhealthy coping mechanisms just to hide from the hunger. I'm always hungry. Just venting at this point. I'm not sure what's worse the pain from not eating or the pain of trying to get the food down. I feel so anxious thinking about putting anything in my mouth that's not going to numb the pain. I was told that it will get better. I was so excited when I hit that 4 month mark and I was like yay I can try salads. Did not go down well at all and not to be gross but came right out exactly as it went in. Just having a hard time with food. [emoji17]

Going to call back on monday to see if i can get an earlier appointment than next month. Everyone keeps telling me it gets better. yeah I look great lost about 80 pounds but feel horrible.

Sometimes it’s trial & error to find foods that work. I still can’t eat much of an egg, and pork is too dense for me at nearly 2 years post op. Go back to soft foods like refried Beans, yogurt, soft fish, and cottage cheese. Eat the things you can, supplement with Protein Shakes, and keep up with taking your Vitamins. Every couple weeks try something new, and go back occasionally to foods you couldn’t previously tolerate. Something I had to learn the hard way was to SLOW DOWN! I was always a really fast eater. I get sick and vomit when I eat too fast now. It’s a process, hang in there!

I have a dime on the table next to me to.help me gauge my size or bites. I guess I need to wait longer in between bites with my baby utensils. Lol I heard using the tiny silverware would help it has somewhat. I am just so hungry I am pretty sure I'm not being patient enough. I'll do the vomit thing if I finish faster than 30 minutes. Patience was never a virtue I was endowed with. Man am I learning the hard way.

Strangest thing in the world I just said f* it at a barbecue and took a bite of a rib. Just one. It stayed down was delicious. Hours later had another bite. I was like how that went down easier than an egg or any type of chicken I've tried? Everyone's body is so different. Mine is different from itself from day to day it seems.[emoji2376]

I used to say my tummy was like a petulant child who was very fussy & would randomly throw tantrums. For example at about 3 months I was able to eat smoked salmon but at 5 months it was disgusting. I can eat very small amounts now. Don’t know why it changed except it may be too rich.

I was pretty tentative introducing new foods into my routine. If my tummy didn’t like something the first time, I’d try it again in a couple of weeks. Sometimes it’s not straight forward to work out what about the food upsets you - too rich, too dry, the texture, the smell, etc.

The portion size you are able to eat does increase as you progress. I could barely eat an egg at 6 months but I can eat about 1.5 eggs now.

I still eat slowly: 30-60 minutes depending on what I’m eating. I still eat from a side plate too but have graduated to a dessert fork now - lol! I also cut my meat & vegetables before I sit down to eat so each piece is bite size. Don’t be afraid to put down your cutlery & sit back from your table between bites. I also ask myself if I need the next bite or do I just want it. Sometimes, I will start to take a bite but stop & put my fork down again. Sometimes I pace myself by only taking a bite during an ad break, or when I finish reading a page, or complete a sudoku, or every 3 - 5 minutes. They’ve been little tricks that work for me.

Good luck.

Could you possibly be having reflux? Sometimes acid feels like hunger. But other than that, I hope you can get an appointment with your doctor soon. In the meantime, try different, soft foods, small bites, chewing really well, eating slowly, like everyone here has already said. I hope you feel better soon!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
