Antibiotics making me super sick

Recommended Posts

I had the Sleeve surgery in April of this year. I was recently prescribed antibiotics for an infection. The first day I took the antibiotics I instantaneous vomited, so the second day I ate like an hour before but still vomited instantaneous. My stomach has been messed up since & Been throwing up everyday several times a day for 7 days my surgeon & GI Both gave me prescriptions to help but the meds have not helped. Has this happened to anyone else

Try not leaving such a long time between eating & taking your antibiotics. Try swallowing them with milk, yoghurt or Protein Shake if you’re waiting to take them so you’re not drinking Water 30 mins after you eat.

Antibiotics taken on an empty tummy can make anyone nauseous even non bariatric patients. Though our tummies can be fussy & sensitive.

Give your medical team a call if the prescriptions aren’t working or causing you more distress. You can’t keep vomiting multiple times a day.

Do you happen to know the name of the antibiotics you’re taking? Certain ones are well known for fairly severe gastric distress and others are a bit kinder. I would definitely take with meals as Arabesque said, and ask if you can switch to a different medication if it’s intolerable.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
