Hey all.

So, I was sleeved on 6/11/2020 and altogether, I've dropped a little over 120 pounds. I'm so grateful for this second chance at life but here lately, I feel like I can mess it all up. I am having an extremely hard time with hunger in between meals and ESPECIALLY at night. So, a year out, I can obviously eat more than I used to. I still get full rather quickly, but it's like an hour later and bam- I feel like I can eat a snack. I'm usually pretty good during the work week because I'm on a schedule, and I know I'm not dehydrated because I sip on m Yeti all day and am done with 2 by the day is done. But when I'm home at night, all I want to do is snack. Sometimes, I can just tell myself no and I'll go to bed. Other times, I'll break down and eat. It's definitely made me go into a maintaining mode I think, because I've been stuck at the 205-207 pound mark for the past 6 weeks. I was reading through some forums and people have said it's been their stomach acid making them think they are hungry, so I am starting to take my script for Prilosec again. Just reaching out to see if anyone has had a similar issue and what they did to break through it. I am terrified of stretching my stomach back out. Luckily I have an appointment with my nutritionist next week so I am definitely going to talk to her about it. Anyways. Thanks for letting me rant. Have a great week, everyone!!!

Congrats on your weight loss! I am only 3 months post op, so I cannot comment directly on your experience, however, I’ve always been a big snacker so I thought I’d share the information my dietician discussed with me. She told me some people have an easier time eating 5-6 small “meals” throughout the day versus 3 regular meals. She told me it’s okay if I eat a snack or two - as long as it is Protein focused or a vegetable. So things like cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, cheese sticks, etc are good snack options.
The other thing I’m curious about is if you are counting your calories or logging your intake in some way? That has always helped me to see what I’ve eaten and make sure I stay within my calorie limit.
Anyway, I hope you can get some answers. Keep us posted ☺️

Hey girl! Congrats on your journey! I do track, I use the Baritastic app. I'm pretty good about meal planning during the week, and I've been averaging around 1000-1100 calories per day, and I'm averaging about 80-90 ounces of Water, not including other fluids like my coffee or my sugar free Gatorades. It's just after dinner, when I'm relaxing, watching TV, reading, these hunger pains hit and I'm like must.have.something.... so it's been either a piece of PB and banana toast, a Protein Bar, etc... It's not like I'm going completely off the rail, but I also don't want to graze to the point where it's killing my progress, ya know?

Makes complete sense - and these issues are the exact reason I’m glad they required us to work with a dietician!

So, maybe I shouldn't say anything since I haven't had surgery yet, but I tend to get snackish late morning and afternoon, and I'm trying to lose weight prior to my surgery. I'm trying to eat low calorie/high volume foods that help me feel full like cucumbers and red bell peppers with or without tzatziki. They really fill me up and have a lot fewer calories and carbs than Protein Bars or pb banana toast. Maybe you could eat veggies at night? I've seen one surgeon on line that said if you're not hungry for veggies you're not really hungry; it's just head hunger, so I'm trying to keep that in mind.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
