At what point were you able to start swallowing pills without grinding them up? I am still doing that and am curious at the timeline everyone else may have experienced? Any issues once you did?

I had no restrictions on pills at all and they had me taking them within a couple hours after surgery. I wasn’t allowed to take more than 1 at once and had to wait 15 min in between. Within a week I was able to take multiples at once without issues. Before surgery I did not have any issues with pills and could take 4-5 at a time. So it may vary individually. Each surgeon has their own programs and rules to follow and I’ve seen many differences on here with meds.

My surgery is upcoming but I was told I could take anything as I usually do as long as it's not bigger than a tic tac. If it's bigger than that, then I need to crush it. So if I'm to continue taking what I do now, looks like only my Metformin will need to be crushed (for now) as the Lisinopril is small enough and and so is my Hydrochlorothiazide but I'm actually supposed to stop that once I get the surgery done.

Good info so I guess I can attempt to take the pill as is.

I was able to take them the morning after surgery in the hospital but I would still call and ask your dr just to be certain.

I never crushed pills. I was told I could take anything the size of a pencil eraser (or smaller) the regular way. That covered all my pills except for two - my Calcium tablets and some other pill that I can't remember at the moment. So I bought chewable calcium to get around the first issue. For the second, the PA in my bariatric clinic said I could either crush them, or just not take them for about two weeks (which he said should be OK), and then give it a try to see if I could swallow them whole. I went with option 2 and WAS able to swallow them whole at two weeks out.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
