I have been curious about the sleeping thing too. I’m a side/stomach sleeper. In hotel for 3 nights after. Will be no issue when I’m home as I have adjustable bed.

Hey this is my first post. I was just sleeved on May 25th and I had a terrible reaction to the anesthesia and pain meds. I was nauseous for 36 hours straight. Every time I had to move I started dry heaving. They kept giving me anti-nausea meds in my IV every few hours. I finally started feeling better by last night and came home after passing my swollen test and drinking most of my Water. Now the nausea is gone but I’m not able to drink much without bad pain which I think is gas from not being about to move much those first 36 hours. I’m scared to drink but know I need to. Did anyone else experience nausea like this?

I didn't, but a woman who was having surgery on the same date (5/12) with the same surgeon I did and her nausea and vomiting continued even after release. She too had a reaction to the pain meds they gave her. I believe she is getting better. She said it hurt to drink and it felt like "syrup" going down.

You may be taking too large of drinks. Take little sips and try not to swish it in your mouth as that causes more air to be swallowed. You do need to keep fluids in you. If you really can't drink, you need to call your surgeon. BypassSophie, who is a member of this forum can tell you all about not getting enough fluids. She wound up going into the hospital for IV fluids and electrolytes. I hope you improve soon. Keep us in the loop!

I slept on my side in the hospital and when I got home, although instead of rolling from one side to the other, I now tend to stick to one side. Rolling over is still uncomfortable even after 2 weeks.

My VSG Surgery is tomorrow 5/28 @ 1130am. I am going to be going home same day about 6-7hrs after the surgery is complete as long as I am drinking, walking, and I can go to the bathroom. Since I will be home my first night, should I be sleeping on my back or have people been able to sleep on their sides? I am a side sleeper and was wondering.

Wherever and however you are most comfortable. I slept on my side in the hospital and after I got home.

I slept on my back the night I was in the hospital and then for the first few nights I was home. Side sleeping felt like my stomach was pulling and it was uncomfortable. After a few days I was waking up on my side and able to comfortably sleep on my side. Lately I've been waking up on my stomach and there's no issue. I'm 16 days out.

My procedure was on May 18th and I have been sleeping all over the place.

Day nine for me and still sore in my stomach in like two spots. Mostly around the biggest incision location. But yeah, still feels like burning and tearing if and when I move certain ways. Still can't sleep on my sides due to those reasons. So tired of sleeping sitting up and slouching down in the bed on my back that my ass and lower back have been killing me because of it. LOL

I sleep on my back and side with no pain. I slept on my stomach before the surgery but I don’t think trying that is a good idea. I am 3days post op I think and I am fine just still dealing with gas and getting all my fluids down mostly the 2/3 sips and feeling funny. I was told in the hospital to set my alarm every 15 mins so I have been trying to do that. I hope everyone has a speedy recovery. And I am down 13lbs from the start of pre op diet. I see other has drop more but I am not letting it bother me. Just trusting the process. My biggest issue I WANT food. I think I am handling it ok.

Had my gastric sleeve surgery on Wednesday, May 26th at 8:00 am. I was bumped up from 2nd surgery to 1st. All went well. I stayed one night was discharged around noon on Thursday. Doctor found I had a hiatal hernia I never knew about and repaired it during surgery. The biggest challenge for me is getting the volume of fluids in. When I take sips I get a painful sensation much like a gas pain that goes away very quickly. Did anyone else have this? If so, how long did it last?

I had my surgery done on the 25th and I am also struggling with fluids. When I drink I have gas pain as well and it goes away quickly. I walk walk walk and I also take Gas x but it seems like that doesn’t work

Hi all! New here! Just had sleeve yesterday and in hospital. Getting out this afternoon! liquid diet was hard... I couldn’t even get to the last Protein Shake I was over it by then!
The recovery is pretty difficult.... they don’t give you a brain alteration 🤣 so hard to adjust you’re not supposed to chug a 1oz cup of anything...sip sip. What a life change!
Not supposed to be hungry but I am 😢

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
