New here! Scheduled for Gastric Sleeve on May 26th... am six days into the first week of liquid diet... so far so good. Looking forward to connecting to others - especially when challenges arise!

That’s my day as well! Except I’m getting the actual gastric bypass. I’m pretty nervous are you? I haven’t lost much weight on the liquid diet yet. And I haven’t cheated, in fact I’ve done nothing but drink those shakes, 4 a day sometimes 5.

I'm baaaack. Well, sort of and only partially. I had my gastric sleeve and 3" hiatal hernia repair last Wednesday, 5/12 and am starting to feel more alive today. Yesterday was a veritable **** show. I traveled for my surgery and Saturday coming home was a long, horrible day of car rides and changing planes and I was exhausted! Filled with emotional turbulence already, I came home to a sick dog and all that goes with that. But, I allowed myself to just cry, rest, sleep when I felt like it. I carried around a glass of ice Water everywhere I went and sipped on broth and Pedialyte to maintain hydration and electrolytes. I've added in some Protein Shakes today (though not what my body needs just yet) and made a cup of egg drop Soup today also to increase Protein. My belly still feels hard and bloated, but I made myself walk both yesterday and today and IT DOES HELP! I had a lot of pain in my shoulders post surgery that is starting to improve, but still comes on when I burp or need to burp. I understand it is referred pain in the phrenic nerve from the carbon dioxide used to inflate the belly during surgery. Again, the walking seems to help. I won't win any medals with these walks mind you, but was told to get up and move my body to work that gas out of the tissue. No matter how much I think I know, how much I have read, how much you all have taught me, I am still going to have to experience this all myself and learn as I go. Hang tough everybody. We can do this!!

Well, I was scheduled to have my Gastric Sleeve and abnormal hernia repaired in May 12th, but was cancelled due to the anethatist calling in sick ( his father past away) and my doctor didn't want to use any of his back up one's due to the complex surgery.

So, I have been rescheduled for tomorrow... I've been on the liquid diet for 3 weeks now. I've actually lost 5 kilos which isn't too bad.

what does everyone’s post op diet look like? Mine is a super slow food progression. This first week is Clear Liquids plus Protein Shakes, then 2 weeks full liquid, 2 weeks purée, 2 weeks soft food then regular diet. I’m already anxious to get to purée just to change things up. broth is like the highlight of my day just because it’s savory. I know things vary a ton between surgeons, curious how everyone else is faring.

Hey guys, had surgery on 05/11.. so far I’m doing okay just wanted to check to see if anyone is struggling getting the Protein in? Also I’m getting a lot of burping/gas even with the smallest of sips of liquid. Just wanted to see if anybody else was having the same issues!

Yes, I am. Sipping slower helps, but it is still a big learning curve. I actually have to remember to take a breath, blow it out, then take a sip otherwise I tend to trap air in my pouch and it is uncomfortable.

I was told mine is going to be 5 days clear liquids, 5 days any liquid, then 12 days purée, 2 months soft and then regular diet. I get my surgery on Wednesday

My first 2 days were clear liquids. Then Protein Shakes and Greek yogurt until this week (I had surgery May 3rd). Now I am on mushy foods. Cottage cheese, tuna, fat free refried Beans, puréed ground turkey & chicken, soft scrambled egg. I’m nervous about trying actual food this week, but excited to have something besides Protein shakes. I’ve also noticed food options seem to vary a ton depending on people’s surgeons. It’s interesting.

YAY, that's my day too!!!!!!!

My day too! I can’t wait to get this over with. I’m more scared of the nurses putting the IV needles in my hand than the surgery. Nurses have a very hard time getting needles into me. Good luck all the May 19th people! B

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
