Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first

Recommended Posts

Update:

I didn't get anything. Why? Because all the sizes on sale were Small, or XL or XXL. In several shops.

And you know who's completely, boringly normal? Me. And that, my friends, was the NSV of the year. :)

That poor shop lady looked at me like I was an idiot when I said "actually, it's TOTALLY fine that I can't fit into that shirt in XXL. And see, XL doesn't work either", totally happy. She was like "ok kewl, Crazy, now step back from the mirror and like 50 feet out to the street pls or I'll call the cops."

I went bowling with my husband today and we did warmup and three games and I wasn’t tired at all. We used to do league and that wasn’t too bad because there are so many people between so you get to rest but when just he and I would go in the past I would get wiped out and sometimes had to let him finish my last game for me. Today I finished all three and could have done more.

I'm a side sleeper, and my body used to be so wide that I needed 2 or 3 pillows to hold my head up high enough to align my neck with my spine. Now I just need one pillow!

Today I had an unexpected and surprisingly satisfying NSV. I noticed that my belly button shrank. It's about 50% shallower than it used to be! Who knew I would be so pleased about less depth to my belly button? 😆

Oh that IS weird and funny and a wonderful non-scale victory. I think one of mine might be not wearing WIDE shoes anymore. Now I'm just a regular medium width foot.

I went shopping with my sister a few days ago and tried on a lovely sparkly sweater in H&M. It was a size medium and looked all sorts of baggy on me so I didn’t end up buying it. I know mega oversized clothes are all the rage right now and that contributes to why it was too big but I’ll gladly take it anyway!!! 🥳😃

I am finding that I am enjoying my non-scale victories very much!! 😊😊 I can cross my legs, take the stairs without my knees hurting and being out of breath. Most of all I am really enjoying the restful nights sleep!

Nothing too fancy yet, but finally my favorite winter PJ fit loose on me when I avoided wearing them for few years for fitting too snug on me. 🥰

My mom is in assisted living but mentally she is great I stopped in to bring her some adult diapers the other day and I walked in her room - I had sunglasses on - she said Hi and I said Hi! She said can I help you with something? I lifted the box of diapers and showed them to her. She said Oh! Did my daughter drop those off for me? I said what?! She said why didn’t she come see me? She just dropped them off with you? I took off my glasses and said mom it’s me! OMG she said I didn’t recognize you! Well open the blind honey I want to see you in the light! I’m only 5 weeks out but back into a size 14 jeans and lost 32 pounds. It really made my day. I’ve seen her once right out of surgery but didn’t feel well enough to stay long. I felt like I wasn’t loosing really so it meant a lot to me for her to not recognize me at first it made me realize I am progressing

I had a two-day athletic seminar this weekend with a bunch of people I've never met. We were asked to tell our story, so I told my story about struggling with weight loss, getting WLS, and trying to maintain strength through the weight loss. Afterwards a few of the participants said, "I would never have guessed you were heavy before. You could never tell now."

Like a (refreshing) splash of cold Water because I of course remember myself as the fat kid.

Had a few of these recently and it's nice to remember it's happening:

  • Showered at the gym (open stalls) - that was a bit of a process because I look pretty buff with my gym clothes on (arms and legs muscular and no loose skin, decent chest definition that's noticeable in a t-shirt), but my torso and the place I sit on look melted without clothes. But I did it. And nobody looked. Freedom.

  • Got hit on by two girls in IKEA. In fact, I had to ask them if I could help them with something as they were staring uncomfortably long, and I've gotten pretty aware of that, having been fat for a long time. They giggled and one said 'oh we just thought you were cute hee-hee'. Oh. Oooh.

I am honestly still reminded whenever two things happen: I need to tie my shoelaces or I need to sit on some flimsy chair. What a relief it is to simply ... bend down and tie those damn shoes! And if a chair breaks (thankfully, it never really happened), it's not my fault anymore.

I have a 10-hour flight coming up and I've been lucky to get a business seat. Can't wait to feel how nice the extra space is, compared to before when it was absolutely necessary to pay 6x for a seat in the front to fit me.

Best. One. Ever. It snowed here in the St. Louis area, and I have always loved snow but haven't been able to play in it for years because of my weight. My 11 year old son and I just came inside from playing in the snow and sledding and I went up and down our hill so many times to sled and wasn't winded AT ALL. This is the first time in my son's life that I've been able to get out there and keep up with him in the snow and this and this alone is worth every penny I paid for my surgery!!! [emoji16]

I’m so happy for you I wanted to cry! I have a seven year old and feel the same way about doing things with him. He told me it’s not fun to play catch with me anymore since now I’m fast and can catch him. I love capturing him and smothering him with kisses!

Thank you [emoji3590]. It's an amazing feeling. I felt like a failure as a mom so many times because there were things I couldn't do with him. I tried by best but that's just not good enough when you weigh almost 400 pounds. I am 50 and feel like a kid again myself! I'm so thankful.
Congratulations on being able to play catch with your son and outdo him! [emoji23]

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
