I'm one week into my 2 week pre-op liquids/veggies only diet.

I've gotten really extra about making palatable food (Indian inspired cauliflower rice and tandoori cauliflower bites with a Tomato chutney) but today, day 6, I am STRUGGLING.

I had my 4 shakes today, but I have a splitting headache and I'm weak, any advice?

It will pass. My surgeon called the first week pre op diet as hell week. I was so glad I only had to do Keto but I have friends who could only have three meals a day: three shakes or two shakes plus one meal. You’re fortunate you are on 4 shakes + a meal.

A lot of the effects you are experiencing are ketosis - fat burning. Plus you’re experiencing some withdrawals. You’ve reduced your calorie intake so until your body get used to it you will feel a little weak. The weakness will continue post surgery though too.

If you can have unlimited vegetables, try making a soup/broth that you can eat/drink whenever your headache starts.
Congratulations on the upcoming surgery!

I’m on day 7 of my pre diet. I know what you mean. I bought some excedrin for the first few days of sugar and caffeine withdrawals. Now I’m good but tired. I’m grateful that I’m getting the sugar out of my system before surgery! Make stir fry’s with rice cauliflower cooked in broth and also make lots of sf Jello. Vegetable Soup and salads with Walden Farms dressing to make it through as well. What date is your surgery? Mine is RNY on the 14th.

I feel you big time! I am struggling so much more than I thought with the preop diet (2 shakes and one small meal, no carb no fat no oil). I got ahead of myself and started early and now I'm at day 5 and I'm super cranky, hungry, weak and frankly, a little sad. Which is not like me at all. I'm 13 days from VSG. Hoping this feeling passes.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
