NOT excercising at all

Recommended Posts

I have not done any exercising at all. I am almost 6 months post op. I had the bypass, and have lost 75 lbs. to date. I have gone down 5 sizes. I feel that if I exercise, I will lose too much weight. I already look too skinny. I can't eat more, to compensate. It is still hard for me to eat a lot. I still get full easily. I am looking fwd. to the weather getting better, so I can at least take my dog for a walk around the neighborhood. Is this bad, that I am not exercising at all right now at this stage of WLS?

I think that while exercising contributes to weight loss, it is also an important part of a healthy lifestyle. I would introduce some cardio and weight lifting just for the health benefits. Good luck!

Exercising half an hour at your weight would burn 150-200 cals max, unless you do very HIIT, which you wouldn't right off the bat in any case.

A spoon of olive oil on a salad would compensate for those calories. I mean, you don't have to exercise if you don't want to, but I'm sure you could find a way to compensate.

I didn't realize that I would only burn that many calories. TY for letting me know. I feel more comfortable trying now. If I do anything, it would be because my arms feel weak.

Yes, I am going to try to lift some because my arms are weak.

Like you, I did almost no exercise in the first six months. As I've said here before, exercise isn't a major factor in weight loss. You are clearly losing enough weight without exercise, so you don't necessarily need to change your routine during the weight loss phase.

I'm two years out and am just starting an exercise routine to build strength and stamina, not to lose weight. That's something you might want to think about down the line, but as long as your weight loss is on track, you don't need to worry.

I wouldn't be exercising to lose weight necessarily. It was just because my arms have been feeling weak lately. Knowing that you didn't start until 2 yrs later, makes me feel a lot better. TY

I stopped exercising after a couple of months (I was walking on my treadmill) because of my low energy & low blood pressure. The day I almost fell off due to being so tired & light headed I decided enough.

It’s true. Exercise contributes very little to actual weight loss. But it does contribute to your general health. It also increases your appetite to compensate for the calories you’ve burnt. I still don’t exercise but try to be active in other ways. Dash up & down the stairs in my house. Park further away from where I’m going. Walk at a pace around shopping centres etc. Take stairs when possible. Walk to the local shops. It all helps.

do what you like, like to walk - walk, like to dance - dance, maybe you like yoga or aerobic. any activity is activity! everything is better than lying on the couch. For example, I do not like active body movements, so I prefer regular strength training.
and remember, for activity it is also considered to walk the stairs instead of the elevator, do not take a bus but go to a stop or two on foot, all this is direct basic activity that very well affects the form

If you want to exercise and when you do you feel like you are losing too much weight you can introduce healthy fats into your diet such as avacado, nuts/ nut butters and healthy oils. That being said. I am almost 7 months out and the only exercise i do is walking.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
