Hi so I'm new here and was wandering if anyone else is going through the same? I'm 13 days PO and I've barely lost anything. Week one I was so excited to weigh but I lost nothing! I've never heard of anyone who didn't lose alot week 1. Into week 2 and I'm only down 6Ibs and I realy dont know why. I'm sticking to everything I'm supposed to, barely managing 3 to 500 calories a day and havent cheated with anything. Has anyone had similar problem? My clinic just told me up my Protein but I should still be in liquid stage. Tia

While I didn't have that in week 2, I had it in week 3 or 4 where I hit a wall. Are you still on liquid diet? What I did was took the cup off the top of cough medicine and used that as my drinking measure. I would drink Water from that for 2 weeks to make sure I wasn't over or under drinking. At this point you probably aren't eating yet, so I relied on "good" Protein Shake powder from GNC to limit calories and raise Protein. What about a daily walk around the block? I live in MN so it wasn't appealing to me, but I powered through it. Just something different to throw the body a curveball. That's what worked for me, but everyone is different.

Keep in mind there are days when I think I am going to drop 1-2 lbs and step on the scale and I gained 1-2 lbs from last weigh in. It can be frustrating, but you have to stay the course. Have you talked to your doctor or dietician? Have you tried a food log? Just my $.02 worth.

Thank you, I've heard of the 3 week stall but never week 1 it threw me a bit and I've been feeling down as my weightloss is not near people that had surgery on the same day. It's very hard not to compare although I'm trying. I'm still in quarrantine due to covid restrictions in my Country but definitely looking forward to get walking. Thanks alot.

I lost nothing during week one. You get a bunch of fluids in the hospital and you body tends to be in shock after surgery. 6 pounds week two is awesome. Don’t stress. The weight will come off if you stick with the plan. 😊

You're doing great! I actually weighed more at my 1-week followup appointment than I did the day of surgery. As @WishMeSmaller said, it's because they pumped you full of IV fluids while you were in the hospital. Your body is recovering from a major surgery, and I know it's easier said than done, but it's too soon to be looking at your weight loss right now. Your priorities should be getting your fluids and Protein, and if you stick with your surgeon's plan, you WILL see results. The number on the scale is virtually meaningless right now, so please don't stress about it.

So the 2nd week, I finally got down to my pre-surgery weight! After the first couple weeks, the scale starting moving down pretty quick. Had a stall around week 10, starting drinking a lot more Water, and I've lost 5 pounds in the last 2 weeks.

You're doing really well. Don't try to compare yourself to anyone else. Everyone heals at different rates depending upon how fit they were pre-surgery, preexisting conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure etc. Listen to your body, rest when you need to, drink plenty of fluids and be very cautious as you start adding foods into your diet.

You're doing really well. Don't try to compare yourself to anyone else. Everyone heals at different rates depending upon how fit their were pre-surgery, preexisting conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure etc. Listen to your body, rest when you need to, drink plenty of fluids and be very cautious as you start adding foods into your diet.

Thanks alot, I'm hoping once I get out of isolation and start walking it will all kick in. Delighted I posted feel alot better reading other's experience

Gonna add one more thing: during weight loss phase, I noticed that a good nights sleep helped. I'm a borderline insomniac (self-diagnosed, lol) and on average, I tended to lose at a slightly faster rate on the weeks that I averaged more nighttime sleep hours (yeah, I tracked my sleep too).

Gonna add one more thing: during weight loss phase, I noticed that a good nights sleep helped. I'm a borderline insomniac (self-diagnosed, lol) and on average, I tended to lose at a slightly faster rate on the weeks that I averaged more nighttime sleep hours (yeah, I tracked my sleep too).

I never thought of this I'm usually awake till 4-5am, will definitely be trying to track this and take more notice. I'm struggling getting the Water in too as large gulps hurt but sipping I dont get enough throught the day

I was just going to post something similar. I had my surgery almost two weeks ago, and I haven't lost as much as I thought. Still on the liquid diet for another couple of days. More of the weight I've lost is from the 2 week pre-op diet. I'm 20 pounds lighter than January 1st when I started the liquid diet, but about 13 of those pounds were before surgery. I was told this is normal, and to stay away from the scale. Keep doing what you need to do and eventually the weight will start dropping off. Stay encouraged! I am trying to do the same!

first week is from the IV fluids they gave you in the hospital. Some people gain as much as 10 lbs from that (I can't remember how much I "gained" - maybe 4 or 5 lbs). It can take up to a week for it to work its way out. Also, almost everyone has their first stall within the first 4-6 weeks after surgery. It's usually the third week (thus, the "three-week stall"), but not always. Mine was weeks 2 & 3. During week 4, it broke and I dropped like 6-8 lbs practically overnight.

      So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

        It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

      I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

        I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

      How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

        Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

        I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

        I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

        I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

      Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again. 
      I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent. 
      I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

      Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
      For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
      For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
      Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
      Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
      It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
