weight gain and Water intake?

Recommended Posts

I'm 6 weeks post op and have gained about 6lbs. I'm thinking its from not reaching my Water goal but not really sure. I get about 2/2.5 16 oz. bottles down a day. Which I know is definitely not enough. Anyone have any ideas on how to get more water in? I use the flavor packets but its still hard to get down.

Are you still having shakes or drinking high Protein milk? Those liquids count towards your Fluid intake as well. I was also told that SF Jello counted towards fluid intake because it turns to fluid in your stomach.

Total fluids, what are you hitting?

I've been having a hard time with Protein Shakes in general. I cant keep them down. I do have high Protein milk but don't drink that as often as I should. This whole process is a learning experience

I can't do shakes either. They make me sick so my dietician and nurse told me yesterday that I can quit them. I am only week 3 so I was shocked. However, they told me I needed to drink 500mL Fairlife high Protein milk daily instead. Have you spoken to your NUT about it? If you can stomach the milk, I would definitely up that to help fluids too. It's hard!! But my dietician said if I am getting minimum 1.5L of fluids a day, that is a great start and just keep trying to outdo my previous day by a bit every day.

Also, I can not get in my fluids if there isn't ice in it. Have you tried different temperatures? Room temp, ice cold, heated up (herbal or Decaf tea). I never could handle ice prior to surgery, so it is weird but things change.

I learned ice helps me get some down sometimes but other times, my body doesn't handle the cold well. I see my NUT on Monday so I figured I would wait. I think ill try the milk to see if that helps.

Mix it up a little. All no-calorie/low-calorie liquid counts. sugar-free popsicles are Water. Gatorade Zero is water. coffee is water. Hot tea is water.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
