4-5 weeks post food consumption yucky feel

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. I'm over a month post op. I'm hating the sugary taste of Protein Shakes at this point but having trouble eating enough volumn of soft foods and when I do I get a weird tired yucky feel, not nausea but the only way I can think to describe it is GI and mental exhaustion. Anyone experience this? If so when does it get better and what helped you get through? I've started trying to notice my body signals and stop eating as soon as I feel the issues start and eating more frequently but it's harder to get my was fluids in in between. Andy advice from veterans appreciated.

I am only 6 weeks post op but I know exactly what you are saying. My best advice is this. Remember this is just a stage and it will be over quickly!!! eggs, cottage cheese and Bone Broth saved me and got me through the rough spot. I kind of gagged my way through the soft and pureed business and when I got into the regular food it was amazing. The first few days were a little trial and error but its all good now.

Just remember that that Protein number is just a goal and the sky isn't going to fall if you don't hit it, you try again the next day. All these stages are just stages and pretty soon they will all be a memory and you will be moving on to regular foods in just smaller quantities.

I have tried to eat some foods and they just do not sit right with me, foods that I have loved in the past. I cannot eat bread at all. Not white, wheat or anytype that I have tried so far so I just do not eat breads and I am fine with that. You will try foods and find what work and what do not work and go from there :)

Learning what your body is telling you and listening is the key and it sounds like you are doing that so congrats !!

I felt exhausted in the first few weeks when my food/calorie intake was very low. It gradually went as I managed to eat more food and was taking in more calories. People are different but my diet plan added in carbs at each meal from 6 weeks and that gave me more energy. The carbs are things like oatcakes (which are soft enough to chew and go down) or banana.

I cannot drink the Protein Shake alone anymore, so I make my Protein shake into a smoothie add fruit or Peanut Butter and ice it really changes the taste and makes it more tolerable. 😃

Your body is still healing from having had major surgery and your stomach has gone through major changes. It's a process that takes a little adjustment time. Hang in there, it gets better.

I was very tired for the first 6 weeks; my energy built up again gradually. I also got sick of sweet-tasting things. Protein broth (pre-mixed) or low-sodium broth mixed with unflavored Protein Powder worked beautifully for me. Savory and warm was a welcome change from cold/sweet Protein Drinks. Ricotta/ cottage cheese/ hummus were life savers too.

I couldn't agree more! I had pumpkin Soup tonight and felt like I was in heaven!

You can Water the shakes down to taste. As long and you drink the full amount it will satisfy your Protein requirements. Bonus is it will also work towards satisfying your hydration requirements

Good Luck ♥️

Oh my god this is exactly how I feel! After eating I am grumpy and tired and often have a painful stomach. And I am sooooooo exhausted and just very "down". I'm 4.5 weeks out. And omg I'm sick of Protein water! I'm eating more solid foods but sometimes they just don't sit right in my stomach.

A natural health doctor recommended me Thorne MediClear shake, some of them has no sugar, for some palates, ut may taste nasty. I love them. Because of my weight Im borderline diabetic, I avoid sugar like the pest (my downfall are fries and salt and vinegar chips). The MediClear shake is the only shake I love, doesnt have that sugary taste because some of them have to sugar (They have a regularversio, a plus version an one to support the liver). They are also whey free, for those who may get skin issues with whey Protein.

I have to use the one the Dr recommends for pre and post, but will switch back to MediClear Plus once Im done with them. Im required to purchase 30 serving for surgery.

I don't know if you're a coffee drinker, But I am. I like to get my Protein in by mixing a vanilla Protein Shake with one cup of black coffee. I poured over some ice and pretend it's iced coffee. I think the black coffee take some of that sweetness away..

Great suggestion. I struggle with my last meal, so I might try this tonight from 6pm and take a couple of hours to sip through it.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
