Stopped Losing Weight

I’m still at the same weight this week. I’m off my cycle so I’m guessing it’s not that. I’m taking a look at the foods I’m eating. Right now I’m doing 3 meals of 3oz Proteins (about 150 calories) plus 1 oz cooked veggies. I have about two Snacks usually Quest Protein chips (I need something salty and crunchy). The chips are 140 calories with 3g carbs 20g Protein. I mostly drink zero sugar Vitamin Water about 60oz a day. I’m having very little bowel movements. If any suggestions on how I should improve my diet to lose more weight let me know.

it's probably just a stall. I had several on my journey. Just stick to your plan and the weight loss will eventually start up again. And stay off the scale for a few days if you need to.

Ok thank you. Do you think I need to take something to increase my bowels?

Don’t underestimate to power of the poop. I have been known to drop 3lbs after a big one.

Are you currently taking anything to keep u regular?

This is very common. Remember, you’re not eating much & your body is using every bit if it so you’ll have a lot less waste for your body to excrete. If I went every second day I was happy especially in the first few months when I was consuming so little. If I got to day 3 or 4 without any movement I’d take a stool softener.

I was advised to add benefibre to my diet every day to help with bowel movements. Avoid the fibre supplements that swell in your tummy. Keep your fluids up.

I added Benefibre to my morning shake every single day. And like @Arabesque , if i hit 3-4 days in a row poop-less, I’d take extra measures like a capful of Miralax. If still no luck, then next was Milk of Magnesia...and last resort was a glycerin suppository.

I believe my stall happened a week or so after my surgery. I lost 33 lbs and then gained. 4-8lbs. I believe I lost 4 more in the past week. I’m on my cycle so I’m hoping that it’s Water weight gain on top of being in a stall.

Ladies,

I’m 13 weeks out and I can attest that my body fluctuates 3-5 pounds during that week now. Before surgery it maybe bloated a little and fluctuated 2-3 only.

On my period, I made myself a rule to only do a Sunday morn weigh in. It keeps me positive and less focused on an unstable number.

All of this is very helpful. I must say I have a friend who did the sleeve 4 years ago and she has basically gained all of her weight back. I can see that she was not dedicated or committed to this journey. She’s negative Nancy so I greatly appreciate the positivity.

As we all know, Bariatric surgery is a tool. We are still responsible for nutrition, diet & exercise. I had a friend who went thru a gastric bypass. She thought she could eat the same amount of calories at her former weight & continue at her reduced weight. I can understand that; your brain has not caught up to the change. What helps me is a strong support system, I need accountability. Post-Op support is critical for long term success. It is as vital as the surgery being performed. Bariatric surgery is very emotional, support is key. Ensure you have an exemplary health team, to guide you. This includes a therapist to understand your specific behavior & relationship with food, and a nutritionist. There is so much going on, biologically, emotionally & mentally. In time, fitness\exercise will become part of your regime. You do not need to join a gym or lift weights, or walk on a treadmill. Exercise can be walking, it can be gardening. So long as activity is a daily occurrence. The Health Team will guide you thru something which is new for you. Ultimately, developing new eating habits to last a lifetime. This is important to ensure your success. Change in regards to behavior does not happen in weeks or months, it takes time. Be patient with yourself. Usually, in 6-8 weeks you can resume a normal diet, it depends on the directives of your Surgeon. Each person is different. For me, I plan my meals, consume nutrient dense foods, Protein in every meal, I exercise. Speak w/your Surgeon, nutritionist to understand the plan for you. You will get to where you need to be -

Everybody gets the Week 4 Stall. It's perfectly normal. Don't sweat it. Depending on when you're weighing yourself, Water weight and if you've had a meal can drastically affect it and weight can fluctuate 3-5 lbs a day, so stop torturing yourself and stay off the scale. Weigh just once a week.

I am exactly here...

Surgery date 10/15
Dropped to 204 then this Monday I went up to 205 then Tuesday 207 today back to 205.

first time I hear of starvation mode! Makes sense I’m having a hard time making it to 500 calories. I can watch chicken, tuna, ground turkey. But all of I want to eat it with something not by itself. I have been having either a cracker or mashed potatoes/sweet potatoes, grilled pepper. So I notice my carbs are a little hire than I would like.

What do you do to accompany your Protein? Or do you have it by itself?

"starvation mode" is controversial. Not all dietitians/physicians believe it really happens. You're most likely just in a stall. Just stick to your program and the weight loss should start up again.

I had a similar experience for a week or so. Then I started taking things to make me poop. If your not pooping you won’t lose! Your just filling up your intestines!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
