Hey everyone!

I am about two months post op with my surgery date having been 08/31. I had the gastric sleeve surgery and on the date of surgery I was 358. Currently I am 330 and have been losing weight VERY slowly. My goal weight is 160-180 so I have quite a long way to go.

Has anyone else experienced this? Are there any tips on how to ramp up the weight loss or any meal plans to help keep calories in check so I am not eating more than medically advised?

Thank you

My experience was similar to yours, I only lost 25 pounds in the first two months; however, my loss continued at a steady 10 pounds per month for quite a while after that. I know it seems like it takes forever, but at 10 pounds/month, it wasn't long before it started adding up. I was even more impatient because I had a cousin who had the bypass a few days apart from me and when I compared our progress it seemed like I was losing SO. MUCH. SLOWER. But comparing with other people doesn't work well because a lot of things go into the rate of weight loss, such as your activity level, your dieting history, your natural metabolism rate, how much you have to lose, etc.

Are you sticking closely to the eating plan your bariatric team gave you? Drinking enough fluids? Getting your Protein in? Eating more real food than processed stuff? Do you feel the restriction from your surgery and are you stopping when it kicks in (or just before)? Are you logging what you are eating? That really helped me, especially early on. One thing my surgeon warned me about was including too many excess carbs in my diet, especially refined carbs. So you might want to make sure you're not overdoing it there.

If so, you are doing all the right things. You've lost 28 pounds in two months, so you're averaging 14 pounds per month. That's actually good and will quickly add up to a big weight loss. If you keep losing at that rate, you would be 84 pounds lighter in 6 months! Just keep going, you'll get there...

Yes, absolutely. I had my roux en y done in January and the weight didn't start coming off until well into March. Everybody's system is different, and for those of us who are "slow losers" it's usually because it's taking our bodies longer to understand what just happened to it, how to process these new changes. Fret not though, it will come off and you will do great. :)

First, congrats on your surgery & weight loss so far.

Some of us lose quickly others lose more slowly. We have weeks we lose more then the next hardly anything. The rate can depend on our age, gender, metabolic rate, past weight loss history, etc. all things we can’t control.

The thing to remember is you’re losing. Whoo hoo! You didn’t put on all your weight in a couple of months so you can’t expect to lose it that quickly.

Follow your plan. Measure your food. Keep a track of what you eat. You will reach your goal but it you have to put in the effort to have long term success. There are no short cuts.

This is your journey & there are many things to Celebrate along the way. Good luck.

PS - Sleevers tend to lose weight more slowly than bypass patients at first but the average weight loss is about the same.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
