I’m finally updating.... I flew to Mexico and had my surgery on Friday. I flew home yesterday and crawled right into bed. I had the worst experience. I am still nauseous and haven’t been able to get much down. I know that some people have had excellent experiences going to Mexico, but unfortunately mine was not. I regret having the surgery. I get up to walk and I am so light headed and have to lay back down. I haven’t thrown up today, thankfully. My flight back home yesterday was awful and I threw up a couple times. I had nothing in me and it was horrible. Today I have sipped a little Gatorade today and was able to suck on a popsicle. I pray I get feeling better soon and can get rid of the dizziness and nausea. I have no energy. I hope no one else goes through this.

I'm heading to Mexico in 2 weeks. I'm currently calling around seeing if there is a local doctor willing to do my follow up. I was concerned with the flight back home but I'm hoping that everything will be ok. So sorry you're feeling bad but help me understand how it's any different than if you'd gotten the work done in the states. I'm interested in knowing if this is exclusive to your surgery being done in Mexico. Also, where did you go if I may ask?

Which Protein powder are you using? I have been using vega sport and I'm not a fan. Were you able to find sugar free juice? I was told juice isn't allowed.

Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

(I know you didn't ask me but) I've been using Garden of Life for years now (unrelated to surgery) and really love it. Currently, we use it in our smoothies (frozen fruit, oat milk, Protein powder), for my preop and postop I'm going to substitute the oat milk with soymilk (since that's on the list), and fresh fruit with ice cubes (if the fruit isn't allowed).

I am scheduled for bypass on 11/25 but am having a hard time getting excited about it as 3 out of 5 of the hospital systems in my area (Portland, Oregon) have suspended elective surgeries due to the rise in covid cases, mine hasn’t yet, but it’s likely. Ugh... max out of pocket is met, so frustrating.

I'm so sorry. That's so unfortunate. Hopefully, they'll get the numbers down before the end of the year.

Is everyone okay with telling people? I havent told anyone what type of surgery I’m having. I feel it’s none of anyone’s business and I don’t want the gossip.

I did not tell people because I agree it is none of their business and there is a part of me that is ashamed that I was not able to do it in my own. I lost over 100 pounds in 2005/2006 with proper diet and excercise however i gained it back and have up and down with weight my entire life

You have every right to keep it to yourself. I told some of my immediate family and close friends as they see the significant weight loss. It was more so they were not worried it was something more serious. Otherwise, I don’t tell them the whole story.

When I had my lap band surgery 12 years ago. I shared with everybody on social media, I told all my friends. And when the band failed multiple times I had to deal with my feelings about my own failures for everybody to see. In addition I was also struggling with my feelings about being a fat person no longer in a fat body and my own body image issues and self-esteem. This was also on display for everyone. When I decided to get a gastric bypass after the lap band failed three times, I chose to tell a very select few people. I haven’t even let anyone in my family other than my parents know. I didn’t tell any of my coworkers. I think it’s a personal choice. From my experience it’s really hard if your success and your expectations don’t meet everybody else’s. I hope that helps. Good luck on your journey❤️

We are all here for our own reasons and are on our own journeys. I have been overweight my entire life. I have been incredibly active until my hips failed. I don’t sit at home and eat bonbons I eat a very healthy diet. But I was never able to lose weight significantly without surgery. And that’s OK. Don’t be so hard on yourself. We’ve all had our struggles we’ve had our failures and we’ve had our successes. We’re here to support each other and we get it.🥰

I’m doing great! Almost no pain, bodily functions are all going just fine. I keep waiting for something to go awry, but so far so good! Glad to hear you are doing well!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
