I don't know what to do first!

Wow it's coming in fast.

I got a call today, they want to schedule my bypass surgery for Oct 26, exactly 2 weeks from today! I am totally unprepared! I don't have any supplies! I am not sure I call pull it off by the 26th. Plus, it is very short notice for time off from my job!

I am very stressed about this. First they told me early November and that is great, perfect even. They are going to get back to me if they have a November date, if not I will be taking the 26th of Oct, and start fasting the day after tomorrow!

I'm not sure where to start. Not sure what kind of Protein Water to buy, etc.

I started this journey in August of 2019, lost my job and insurance in Oct 2019. Was blessed to get a new job with the same insurance in April. Now my bariatric checklist is done. My health is terrible and I can't this surgery soon enough. However I want to be able to do it right. Any advice appreciated!

The same thing happened to me, got a call two weeks before surgery just after things started opening after covid. It got postponed two months. It'll never be the perfect time. Go get it done. Things will work out. All you need to get started are Protein Drinks and Water.

If I as to plan it all again I would start in the kitchen pantry. Clean and organize to make finding your favorite things easier.

Next I works get dedicated measuring cups, small plates/bowls & Water bottles, pill organizers, etc.

Last I would clean my house to make everything easier to find if someone will help you during recovery.

I would only get a small amount of post op foods/protein shakes before surgery because your tolerance may change.

I can't remember needing more than that the early weeks post op

Good Luck ♥️

I would try to figure it out and get it done in October. No one knows what's going on with CoVid and whether there will be a second, much worse outbreak. Things could start shutting down again. The sooner you do it - the better. And you will be thankful you didn't postpone it once your surgery is over with... You can ask questions on here and get the help you need to be prepared.

The only supplies I needed the first two weeks was Water, sugar free Jello, Bone Broth, Decaf tea. I was on a liquid diet. That gave me time to prepare for the second phase of pureed food. Don't overthink it. Once done you like many of us will wonder why you didn't do it earlier. Good luck and start to enjoy a healthier life.

First thing I’d suggest-

BREATHE!

You can do this. Just make sure you have everything you need for your pre-op diet and don’t overly stress yourself. The rest will work itself out.

Yes, measuring cups, small plates and bowls, I need those.

Good advice about not getting too many post-op things so soon... thank you!

BTW, after many phone calls today, I got in for November 10th. I told my boss I need a "medical procedure" and she is great with my time off. (Only telling a few about the bypass)

Alleluia! I'm scared, and happy!!!

You're right, they did work out. After many calls I got in on November 10th, yahoo!

I was just so stunned, after not calling me for so long to schedule they gave me two weeks!

Thank you!

There will never be a perfect time. 2 weeks back or forth does not make a difference in the big picture.

But, you don't need to be "ready" stocked up on "supplies". Just take a leap on this. All these thoughts are just anxiety creeping up.

I know you're right, anxiety is something I deal with almost daily. I am glad I was able to get in on 11/10 though. Thanks, this makes me feel much better!

I got a new date of 11/10, which is better, but I still need the encouragement, thanks!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
