Recommended Posts

For the last couple of weeks I have been experiencing problems in the morning with my Breakfast. I really do not feel like eating & when I do eat, I feel nausea. I do not throw up or anything but just discomfort. Anyone experiencing someting similar?

Yes, i do! And my pouch is temperamental in the morning sometimes it wants hot sometimes cold. I think right now the safest bet is just some flavored water in the morning lol. its almost like the pouch needs its own little coffee to wake up (not currently having coffee though at 1 mo post op)

Coffee can be a bit harsh on a healing stomach and may also cause more stomach acid, which may contribute to acid reflux. Post op guidelines vary some allow coffee early on, some much later, I guess once the stomach has healed, its mostly about if it can be tolerated.

Don't be, if its on your plan, your doctor obviously is okay with it. As I said, it varies from plan to plan. There is no right or wrong, just different plans. If it doesn't hurt after having it or you aren't any having any issues with acid reflux sounds like you are doing fine.

I’m 6 months out and still get nausea on occasion for whatever reason. This is actually on my list to discuss today at my 6 month post op appt., though I don’t believe it’s anything to be alarmed over. Mine is mild enough that I almost welcome the feeling vs hunger. It’s a low level nausea and feels as though it’s a stomach secretion or mild acid. They’ll likely advise to resume Pepcid, at least when this comes on.

I really hope it is not to be alarmed over, I am worried and scared about acid stuff that might lead to another correctional surgery :(

I occasionally have been getting nauseous after some of my meals. I've had to take my zofran a couple of times because i just couldn't relax. I usually experience it at night, although the mornings are tough on my pouch. I tend to sip something first (usually Water or flavored water) to just "wake my insides up" i guess? i can't dive straight into a meal.

And if you're worried about acid, maybe drink coffee after a small meal or something. But always check with your team, because I'm sure they've heard this before.

Had 6 month post op appt. this morning, reassured that mild nausea is common for some of us. Suggested going no more than 2 hours without eating at least something, and encouraged me to keep a food diary to correlate anything I may have eaten prior to the nausea feeling. Use Pepcid and Zofran PRN, call them if nausea increases or becomes bothersome.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
