was wondering is anyone else dealing with a feeding tube

hi saying that i had so many complcations after my surgery couldn't eat or drink so now i am on a feeding tube and was wondering if anyone else has had that experience

Feeding tubes aren't the standard fare for WLS. As you say, you had so many complications you are likely one of very few folks that have had to deal with them.

The positive side is the site now has someone with experience of feeding tubes.

I have a couple few many questions, since I don't recall ever having a feeding tube.

Is it always in?

Is there a hole in you somewhere to accommodate the feeding tube?

Do you pump or push the food in somehow?

How big is the tube?

Do they provide the food they want you to use, or do you do your own food?

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm interested in the mechanics of this.

How long do they expect you to have it?

i use mine 12 hours a night usely from 8 pm to 8 am the feeding tube it's self is inserted on my left side by my belly button 'they supply a liquid that is put into a bag which connects to a pump that runs at night the tube isn't real big maybe 3 inchs has a disk around it and i should have it about 6 weeks you can look it up what is a feeding tube some go down your nose but mine is in my stomach Thank god i'm far from an expert but ty

Didn't expect that you'd do it all night. Interesting.

6 weeks indicates they want your surgery well healed before they let anything going through. At least you won't have to cope with surgical pain while you try to learn to eat, that is a positive feature.

Are you allowed to drink on your own?

yes i can also try to eat but right now it's hard with having no appetite and food isn't appealing to me

I wonder if thats the surgery or the tube. I feel similar but no tube. When do you get to come off the tube? Hope you are feeling better today

that part of it might be more the surgery. I had no interest in food the first few weeks. It wasn't appealing; it was a chore to eat. I ate only because I was supposed to eat. Who would have guessed I'd ever feel that way about food? Too bad it didn't last. I feel bad for the OP re: the feeding tube, though.

@calliekaine Prayers and hugs to you! Sounds like you've had a rough road.

Based on your description above, you have a PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy) tube, aka a feeding tube. In my understanding, this is unusual after bariatric surgery. Not unheard of, obviously, but not common. You must have had some pretty significant complications to require this kind of intervention.

BTW: it's relatively normal to have no appetite or desire to eat after sleeve surgery. My experience was a lot like catwoman7's (above). I had no appetite and I ate on schedule because I knew I needed nutrition. That lasted about 6 months or so.

ty for your understanding it has been a hard road i never signed up for this if there is anyone out there who has had a simular expreince would love to hear what you think the tube comes out in about 4 weeks
