Hello Y'all

Recommended Posts

I'm new here, first post. I'm a guy, had RNY in 2003. Before surgery I binged because of OCD.

In 17 years there is too much to even summarize. My OCD has had several serial outlets over the years.

I've been happy with my weight for 15(?) years. My pouch is still post-op size, still works, still looks the same it did right after surgery.

My plan is perhaps different than most folks. I never counted calories, carbs, or much else. Initially focus was on Protein. 3 meals per day.

I look forward to getting to know folks. Some folks may remember me as Tek back when, elsewhere.

Same to you! 17 years is a long time to still feel happy with your weight, pouch - something to be proud of for sure.

Sorry for the delay, I somehow missed your reply.

No, I'm not proud because I feel the surgery did the heavy lifting and I just went along for the ride, if that makes sense.

I am proud of some of the things I've done since, like kayaking, hiking, running, 5 marathons, and dare I say it... better 'relations' with my spouse. ;)

Life changes so much - good to hear that even after 17 years you are still enjoying paddling and the relations with the spouse! How to remain in a happy zone - definitely focus on everything that’s good!! Five years out somethings are good somethings are a struggle definitely like you I am pleased at many of the things I have accomplished. Not sure what my pouch looks like haven’t seen a doctor since 2015 other than my internist. And other unrelated specialists. The past week or so some of my clothes are a little bit snugger than I would like. This scale still has me below where I was for the last couple years. I definitely feel I’ve lost muscle in the last months. This though is a pretty correctable problem and we do get to choose what we want to focus on. Look at your running marathons how very cool!!!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
