Anyone dump? What does it feel like? Have people been able to have some sweets without dumping. Just want to see if I can ever have a cookie or something like that again.

I am eight months out and occasionally eat sweets. I found low carb, low sugar ice cream (Beyers) and occasionally have dessert hummus (found one that was pumpkin pie flavored!!!) with fruit or an cinnamon apple sweet bread (they're like... 60 calories a piece, and only 3g of sugar). There are absolutely ways to include sweets back in, but in a healthy way that (hopefully) won't cause dumping.

Thanks! Great suggestions.

What does it feel like? Well, for me, my heart races, I get super tired/weak, I may barf, or have runs (or both)....basically felt like death (for me). It was always because of sugar and in the early days, the death feelings lasted a more than a couple hours.

Now (almost 2 years out), I still get the dumpies, but not as often nor as strong as before (AND i eat way more sugar now than back then).

Not everyone dumps, though.

P.S. I was sleeved.

I had the sleeve back in 2012. I could eat whatever I wanted and never dumped. That may be why I gained all my weight back. So I just had it revised to the bypass and I was curious about the dumping. I've heard its pretty bad. Hopefully I'm one of the ones that never dumps. Thanks for sharing!

I've "sorta" dumped after some super fatty food. I had some chicken nuggets last night and i paid for it w/a massive stomach ache and 4 bowel movements in 2 hours.. i couldn't lay down and sleep because of it. I can have a bit of sweets.. but i dont go overboard. i go for sugar-free before i do full sugar.

My surgery is not SUPPOSED to have dumping, but imagine my surprise when I dumped after having low carb wheat bread... I was more nauseous than I have EVER been in my life and I had brain surgery and thought nothing could top that! I was wrong! I had the cold sweats, the shakes, diarrhea, etc. I felt like I was gonna die, it was so bad! I was mad at the surgeons office for originally saying you don't dump with this surgery and when I told them what happened they just told me to avoid wheat products! 😒 Like I would actually touch them again, hell no!

Anyway, not everyone dumps and those who do don't necessarily dump over the same things. You'll just have to figure out if something triggers it for you and avoid those foods. Stock up on anti-nausea pills in the mean time. They don't do much to help, but they do take SOME of the nausea away. Some is better than none...

These stories of dumping sound pretty awful. Thanks for sharing!

What surgery did you have that they said you don't dump. Wow!!! You went through all that. That's terrible!

I had the Loop Duodenal Switch surgery. It's for people in the highest class of obesity (people with a BMI of 50+)

I'm 7 months out from my WLS. And I haven't had any dumping issues since I've been avoiding all things wheat. And... my BMI is 36.6 now! 😊 (it was 62.8 at my highest weight and was 51.8 on the day of my surgery) So I'm doing great! I'm in a stall right now though so slightly irritated, but I'm sure it'll pass in a couple days like they usually do.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
