One month after vsg from 215 to 194 the scale has stopped moving

Recommended Posts

You started at a lower weight than most. And stalls happen. They are very irritating and disheartening, but totally normal. Stalls can last anywhere from 1 week to even a month, though generally they don't last longer than three weeks, but my longest one was 23 days. Just stick with your diet and it'll eventually break on it's own. Try not to get discouraged. I know it's incredibly difficult not to and you're probably constantly asking yourself what you did wrong. But stalls are normal. They happen far more frequently to me then I'm comfortable with, but I try not to get discouraged myself because my doctor told me stress can slow your weight loss. It'll pass.

Stalls happen all of the time, just stick with your program, drink your Water and the pounds will come off. I think your body needs to hold and get used to the new weight then you have another drop. I haven't noticed if walking helps or not. I just focus on the Protein and water. I'm just now getting to 600 calories, this is a year out. Good luck on your journey!

It is definitely a stall. I freaked out when I had mine - it was over 3 weeks long. Just be patient - I know it can be so frustrating, but the scale will start moving again.

You seem to be on the same track as me. I was 215 on day of surgery and now 3 months out and I weigh 184.5. So I have basically lost 10 pounds a month. Slow but hopefully it will stay off this way. Don’t get discouraged, it will happen for both of us!

yep - stalls will happen throughout your journey, and the vast majority of us experience our first major one within the first month post-surgery. Just stick to your program, stay off the scale if you have to, and know that it WILL break!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
