Post op day 6 & I’m just surviving! Sleeve date 8/10!

Woot woot! So proud of myself for getting through the surgery! This was actually my first. Here are some things that I have noticed, so tell me if you’ve experienced the. As tell!

1) My stomach growls! Like a lot. It kind of sounds like hunger growling, but I’m not hungry. Maybe it’s just my body saying “thank you for finally doing something about this weight”. But either way, those digestive sounds are active and that’s a very good sign!!

2a) The pain is... different. I’ve always been a “stomach sleeper”, but currently doing so is almost unbearable. So I’ve been forced to sleep on my back. That, combined with the ferocious gas that I still have is like a personal F*#K YOU to my spine! Haha.

2b) The pain in the front.. is it even pain? If I’m laying down, it’s like I can almost forget that I’ve even had any surgery. But God forbid that I need to get up! Feels like there’s a cork screw in my right side, going as deep as it can! I think I’ll just stay in bed for a while.

3) SLEEP! Oh my goodness am I sleeping a lot! I tried to get some good exercise on Friday during the day & was able to walk for an entire hour without any nausea or pain! But that night, I slept for almost 20 hours! I have to remind myself that my body is in a state of shock, I’m not consuming nearly half the calories I did a month ago, and that it’s OKAY to rest. That’s what I need the most.

you'll be fine sleeping on your stomach after awhile. I'm a side sleeper, but I had to sleep on my back the first three weeks or so.

I was the same with the pain. I had pretty much zero unless I was trying to get out of bed - then I felt like I'd just done about 1000 crunches! It'll all go away fairly soon, though...

Oh wow. I am amazed that you were able to walk for an entire hour just 6 days out. My first 3-4 weeks - I was so tired ALL the time. There is no way I could have walked an hour until week 4.

I walked 4 miles yesterday for the first time.... usually I only walk 1-2 miles a day. You are going to be a marathon walker by the end of this.

A lot of the rest is all very common unfortunately. I would stay away from sleeping on the tummy until your incisions are completely healed... like 4 weeks, if you can.

I won’t be doing that hour long walk again for a while. It was all grocery shopping, but I felt like I over worked myself. I definitely felt it the next day when I couldn’t pull myself outta bed.

I’m learning now that a lot of money is going to go into this. But I’m happy that it’s going to a good cause instead of in the pockets of the CEOs of Taco Bell & McDonald’s 😂😂

I had the same experience after I posted about walking 4 miles. I didn't walk at all on Sunday and Monday because I was so exhausted. I am still tired today.. lol. You are doing well though.

Hi cwtwoman7...how soon does it go away? My bad is a low rise bed and I'm worried once I'm discharged of the pain st home.

it's been a few years so I can't remember exactly - but I think it was a lot easier to get in and out of bed after the first four or five days. And it was maybe three weeks before I could sleep on my side again.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
