Pain after surgery

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I had my gastric bypass on 8/4/2020 and I am having a lot of pain on my right side it feels like I pulled a muscle, but I only hurt when standing up, sitting down, or bending. Does anyone know how long this will last? It started three days post op and makes it difficult to take care of personal care. It feels like a burning pain with movement, but I’m able to walk with no pain.

I had a small amount of pain from the largest laparoscopic incision. This is because they have to cut muscle and needed a large hole to extract the gallbladder. It felt much better after a week. I actually had two laparoscopic surgeries (same incisions) in a period of 4 days. I recovered really well from the first surgery after two days with very little pain. The second surgery (SADI-S) took a bit longer to recover from.

I had my surgery on the same day as you! And I actually called the hospital in the middle of the night the other day because of intense pain on the right side of my belly button. The doctor said it’s normal that once you get home and are doing more and are in less pain meds, that the pain get worse for a bit. Have you incorporated any Protein Drinks yet? I just started on Protein2O the other day, and Premier Protein yesterday. I feel like it’s speeding up the healing process already. Feel better soon!

I have been slacking on the Protein. I am having a difficult time getting fluids down. I haven’t had a hunger queue since surgery, and hours will pass before I realize that I may need to at least drink something. Hopefully this pain leaves quickly. I have noticed that hot Water from the shower allows me to move a bit more. Thank you for responding and I hope you are feeling better.

Hi Steph5333,
Same here, I am 4 days postop and was discharged 2 days after surgery. Once at home, pain from ny belly button and my right side increased. My doc tells me the first two weeks this is normal. Who knows. Keep me posted and I hope we both get a speedy recovery. I just want to be able to sleep and walk without any pain.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
