Eating little and lots

Recommended Posts

So the first time I ate a little bit of crab meat it was all I could do swallow a couple of bites now here I am at week 4 and I ate one and a half crab cakes and they went down just fine is. I'm concerned that I was able to eat that much other than the fact that I shouldn't have shoved all this food down my gullet. have I done permanent damage? Why in the world was I so hungry? Or was it may be emotional eating now after I have eaten it I'm starting to feel kind of sick to my stomach but it went in just fine I'd appreciate your thoughts

I think we should be working on appropriate portion sizes or we can easily gain it all back. What is that? I'm not sure, a a half cup for me at 3 weeks. Many people own a scale, ask your nutritionist what is your portion size in Oz's and eat that for b, l and d. Best of Luck to you.

^^^ what she said. Stick to the portion size recommendations you were given. This is your best opportunity to lose a truckload of weight - be sure to use it as it'll get much harder when you're a few months out!!

You both are exactly right I need to be very diligent in practicing the Portion Control. My real question was why was I even able to ingest that much food without feeling sick it seems like when I took that one bite too many I should have felt something. I realize now I was emotional eating due to a personal issue but my question stands if I can't always make the best choices shouldn't my reduce stomach size stop me in my tracks? I'm feeling much better today thanks

1) some nerves were probably cut during the surgery, and it'll take time for them to regenerate 2) most of us don't feel restriction until we start eating solid food 3) "fullness" feels different after surgery than it does before. It takes awhile to recognize our new "full" signals. So in the mean time, just follow the guidelines so you don't overeat.

Ok everyone struggles in the beginning in portion and quality and such. I am amazed you can handle a crab cake so early. It took me about 4 months to handle fried food.

I used a nutritionist to get me to goal. We focused on good quality and realistic portions. For example it was easier for me to eat 5 times a day vs 3 -

It is simple Math! Keep you calories less then you burn and eat healthy!

FYI no you did not do damage most likely we all have been there it is not easy to adjust to the new life style but in time it falls in place.

Two things to watch out for.... certain foods are “sliders” where they more easily pass through preventing you from filling up. I can theoretically eat as much avocado as I want, it just doesn’t seem to fill me up, but a half a baby cucumber will sit in my stomach for what seems like an hour or two. I don’t know if what is a slider for one will also be a slider for another but it’s worth knowing about these in case that is what’s happening. The second thing it could be is if you took a drink after eating... it’s not like the Water or whatever will cause any damage, it’ll just aid in emptying your stomach faster so you don’t feel as full for as long (or at all). That’s actually the one thing I have the hardest time with, I can’t stand eating and not washing my mouth out with a drink of water when I’m done, don’t like the little tidbits and flavors that linger. So I’ve had to learn to just accept it or take a mini baby sip just enough to swish around and clean out my mouth.

I totally understand. From the very start I was able to eat more food without something stopping me than I felt I should have been able to eat. The nurse practitioner said that was the case for some people. She talked about it being a positive thing that I was able to eat without pain and nausea. So I’m trying to see it that way. 😊

I think it can be frustrating when you see people bemoaning the fact they can’t eat much and happily chatting about their lack of hunger when neither is your experience - it can be a truly scary thing! I wish you all the best 👭

wow, that sounds like so much more than i can eat at one time. and certainly more than you should be eating. No judgement, i am still in a place where i want to eat more. but i know if i ate even half that i would feel so uncomfortable. wish i could offer some advice. you posted a week ago, is it still this way?

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
