you're in the infamous three-week stall. It isn't always the third week, but it usually is, hence the name. It can really happen any time during the first month or so after surgery. I had mine weeks 2 and 3. My weight loss started up again during week 4, and I dropped like 6-8 lbs in a couple of days. Just stick to your plan, stay off the scale if you have to, and be confident your weight loss will start up again, because it will.

btw - this happens to almost all of us, and bariatric clinics really should warn people about it because people freak out about it when it happens to them. I just did a search for you on this site on the three-week stall. Here are the posts - 17,501 of them (and no, I am NOT kidding! Like I said, it happens to almost everyone):

Thank you. I had my surgery July 9th & was trying to figure out what was wrong with me. My doctor said to really take advantage of the first few months & that people averaged 30 pounds in the first month. I've only lost 10 lbs since surgery with stalls in week 2 until yesterday. I finally lost 1.4 pounds this morning. I was getting so discouraged.

30 lbs in one month is actually a lot. We see that mostly in people who start out with a super high BMI (although there are some exceptions to that). I've been hanging out on various bariatric surgery boards for six or seven years, and just based on my random observations, I'd say most people are more in the 15-25 lb range, with some exceptions, of course.

I lost 16 lbs the first month and felt like a failure, but my dietitian said that wasn't unusual. I went on to lose 100% of my excess weight. So don't be discouraged.

Wow! 100% of your excess weight is amazing. Could you tell me what your exercise regime was like and what you typically ate in Phase 5? I'm so happy to have found this forum because it's explained so much from stalls to joint pain in my hip socket.

Thank y’all so much for the responses. Yes the drs should explain that the stalls happen in the beginning as well. I have enjoyed walking every night. I have noticed my hips hurting a lot more. But I enjoy night time walks that I push thru the hurt.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
