Recommended Posts

Hi

I had my gastric bypass in 2011 i had lost 120 pounds. i have gained 60 pounds back. I am totally disapointed in my self. I have tried everything to get it back off.i was a slow loser to start with but it came off.

also i had a transfer addiction with alcohol i have been sober 17 months i know it was between that and the over eating again as to why i gained the weight back. i just need some good support and disiplin i can get back on track.

My name is Tammy I"m 56 from Michigan.i was excited when i found this sight hopefully this is a new tool i can use to get my body moving again lol Thank you

Have you contacted your surgeon's office? Even as far out as you are from surgery, they generally still offer support in nutrition counseling, support groups etc.

Losing regain is tough (not to mention slow), but people manage to do it. Some people have had luck with intermittent fasting or Weight Watchers (their new plan sounds intriguing). Others go back to way they were eating in the first year or two after surgery - not all the way back to Protein Shakes and purees, but focusing on Protein first, then non-starchy veggies, and then, if you have room, maybe a small serving of fruit or "good" (like whole-grain) carb. If you do this method, you'll probably want to be mindful of calories as well. I still track mine at five years out - when I don't, my weight starts heading north pretty fast.

Hi Tammy from Michigan. I haven't been on here in a long time. I too share a similar story. I am open to supporting one another on our journey. I successfully lost almost 150 pounds and kept it off for over 5 years. Through a series of life events and depression I stopped all of my food tracking, stopped exercising, and developed a seriously unhealthy relationship with alcohol. I unfortunately regained 120 pounds. It's been a very difficult thing to come to terms with... especially when blaming yourself, beating yourself up and feeling like it is dam near impossible to loose all that weight again without the surgery. The embarrassment facing the world who had watched my journey and been so proud and supportive.. only to years later look at what I essentially did to myself.. I had to shut all of those thoughts out and take time to look at what got me here. So I'm starting over and diligently making my plans with daily effort to work towards my goal. One week at a time. I can't live in the debilitating self hate any longer. However, the addiction to alcohol and now overeating has been a huge hurdle to get over. Finding support, being open about it and accepting myself is keeping me on track..

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
