Remembering foods you can’t eat now

I don't know when things changed and people started going out to eat a lot - maybe 30 or so years ago?

I don't know how many years ago it started in Germany but I think it has to do with more people living alone and both partners working when being in a marriage. In the end it's a spiral of companies-offering-it-to-people and people-wanting-to-have-it.

I think my only "never again" food is going to be spaghetti with regular noodles & sausage. I will definitely be trying spaghetti squash & I'm hoping that'll fill the spaghetti void! I might even add a little bit of sausage to that from time to time. I will have to stay away from the carb-filled noodles though, they are a trigger food for me, big time. pizza is also a trigger food but I now make a flatbread alternative that I love!

There are several things my stomach still won't tolerate: bread, Pasta, steak, tortillas. I guess I miss biscuits and gravy the most.

after you're out a ways, nothing is restricted - but some people can no longer tolerate certain foods - and/or more than a small portion of them. I can eat anything except for really high-fat meals. A lot of fat at one sitting usually makes me nauseated.

This is my "forbidden" food list:

When I was a young adult having just broken up with whom I thought was my forever love, I vowed to never have s*x again! Somehow I have ended up giving birth to 6 kids. A medical miracle, I guess!!

I don’t have forbidden foods but I don’t enjoy drinking alcohol anymore. Probably just as well.

It varies from person to person. You will eventually find out what these are for you.

I am 2+ years out and there is nothing that is completely off the table for me (tolerance-wise), only amounts: i can only have sugar, pork and fluffy bread products in small amounts. Sugar because I’ll get sick, pork and fluffy bread because it fills me up FAST.

I still really can't tolerate rice, maybe one spoon - but just not worth it. Also Pasta - sits like a lump and uncomfortable, plus it's boring now. Toasted bread is okay, but not frequently. And only chocolate in small amounts like - choc chips in a cookie. What happened with the chocolate was early on I had sf chocolate pudding - OMG! I was so nauseous and sick that now the thought of that - no.

For me it’s breads. I don’t go there at all. No tortillas, no rolls, no carb bread etc
I missed it but I won’t open that door for me. Plus I’m not missing it. I get other slider carbs in that I’d rather eat like when we eat Mexican food-I like to eat chips and salsa/queso in moderation of course.
But like silly kitty said I don’t say “I can’t” have it. I have what I want but in moderation and I choose not to eat things that are “worth” it. For me. Breads.

Wow, there's a lot of foods you guys aren't planning on eating again.

Out of curiosity - is it mostly physical, mental or 'because the plan'? Thanks!

dairy = can't have it because stomach cramps and nausea

other animal foods = ethical and environmental reasons

I eat substitutes though if the ingredients don't read too bad, e. g. I'm eating vegan cheese once in a while made out of cashews (there is a vegan camembert that's bomb, unfortunately very pricey and with a very short shelf life) and I make my own parmesan substitute to use over Pasta out of cashews, nooch, a bit of salt, onion and garlic powder.

I limit vegan "junk food" like Schnitzel and "chicken" nuggets because of health reasons but usually have some of them in the freezer when the cravings hit.

For me, nothing is off limits or forbidden. To me...that is giving food WAY too much power.

That said, I've had to be really mindful about eating some things. Really sugary, refined flour stuff...like birthday cake or a fancy desert....if I want to eat it, I've gotta do the work to figure out what a 200 calorie serving is. If I eat much more than 200 calories of sugary refined stuff it's no longer a treat...it's super unpleasant. I don't puke or anything, I just feel kinda gross and unwell for half an hour. But hey....a little teenie piece of cake, a midget scoop of ice cream, a piece of a favorite donut, a small serving of a "mom desert"....is workable and enjoyable when it's a rare treat and the amount is reasonable. (rich stuff might only be a couple of bites)

Rather than having forbidden foods...I have foods that I need a 24 hour waiting period on. LOL. Some foods, I refuse to eat on impulse or short notice anymore. But if I have time to plan for them in my whole day's nutrition and can plan out a reasonable portion....nothing is ever off limits.

I'll also run cycles of four weeks with zero junk food, then one week with limited junk as desired. That way....if I want something bad enough to wait a couple of weeks for it...I can have anything I want.

Off limits = food wins. I want to win. I want to control food, not have food control me.

Stuff I have to be careful of: My beloved corn on the cob. Too much corn no the cob can still cause my banana stomach to feel stuck. I still eat it...cause I love it....but I make sure to eat bites of other things between small bites of corn to keep it from packing up.

I do find that I like a lot of my old favorites less. Sugary stuff is wonderful for about the first three bites....then I'm done. Have learned through experience to enjoy a few bites and not push my luck.

Several old favorites don't taste the same to me or satisfy the same way. Sometimes it's liberating to try old favorites and find out the appeal isn't there anymore. Lot of things are off my naughty list purely because they don't taste as good as my memory of them.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
