I had an appointment with the nutritionist yesterday who let me know that the hospital would no longer be prescribing pain medication after surgeries and that I am responsible for getting liquid Tylenol. I don't know how much pain I'll have after my surgery but Tylenol just doesn't seem like it would do much. I'm kind of worried but at the same time I'm just like I'll worry about it when I get there. Anyone else told they would not be prescribed pain medication after their surgery?

Ask your primary (if you have one) if they ate willing to prescribe either narcotics or tramadol and/or toradol (Ketorolac) for your pain management for surgery.

Because of pain med abuse (and the newly labeled) opioid crisis, doctor's are minimizing what narcotics they give out and why.

Good Luck ❤

a lot of us don't need any as the majority has little to no pain with this surgery, but if you're one of the unfortunate people who do, just let the nurse know. I'm sure they'll be willing to send you home with something stronger than liquid Tylenol if you need it.

That seems very strict to me. I would talk to the surgeon about it. I would think the meds rxed upon discharge should depend on how you are doing while you are still in the hospital. I was sent home with 5 days of Percocet, and it was the perfect amount to keep me comfortable. I think I would have had more pain if I was only on OTC tylenol at that point

I got 5 days of Tramadol but only took it for 2 days then Tylenol for 2 days.

Normally, I don't take any pain medication. I have a high tolerance for pain. I was prescribed Tylenol with Codeine. I only took one dose once I got home. I did great with no pain medication the rest of the time.

It seems like there should be a responsible way for them to prescribe narcotics. My surgeon’s policy is to write a prescription for 8 oxycodone on discharge. He did that for me and I only ended up using 3.

I agree that I would talk to your primary about some pain meds. I didn’t have a lot of pain, but I struggled to sleep early on because I was uncomfortable.

I recently had gallbladder surgery in early March and I was never in any extreme pain so I'm hoping its something like that. I used some of the pain meds they gave me after that surgery but never finished them.

A week before my surgery, my surgeon's office gave me a prescription for liquid hydrocodone/tylenol. I had it filled before I got home but only used it once.

Tylenol was all I needed for the most part. My real pain came from the gas...which there isnt much that can be done other than getting up and walking.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
