Hello Community,

Well I'm new here, I came from reddit. I have completed all steps leading up to my approval from my insurance. They sent a letter in the mail with a date. Is this date accurate or does my doctor schedule my date?

the clinic will schedule the date. The insurance approval is saying they approved coverage for a surgery around that date (as opposed to they approved you for a surgery proposed for 10 years from now, at which time your situation ...and their coverage rules....might have changed radically)

the clinic has to coordinate the date with the surgeon's schedule - plus with the hospital so they can have an OR available for you then. And a bed.

I can't add anything that catwoman7 hasn't already said other than welcome to the forum. Come here often and learn as much as you can. The process isn't nearly as scary if you go through it with lots of knowledge and you know what to expect!

Hi! Welcome to the forums! I’m sort of new myself, and I’m also around on Reddit. I actually joined the forums before I found r/wls. Anyhow, my journey is barely starting, so I’ll wish you luck in that your surgery is scheduled swiftly, and here’s to a speedy recovery when you get there!

Thank you guys. I was a little worried at first because it was scheduled for July 6 and I was freaking out because I wasn't told to do my pre op liquid diet lol. It makes a ton of sense now. Anyone here had RNY yet? What was the experience like from coming out of surgery?

I had it five years ago. I had almost no pain with it - but I was a nauseated that first day. I told the nurse, and they put Zofran in my IV bag to control it.

The first few weeks are a little rough food-wise because you don't know what your pouch is going to tolerate at first, but you figure it out pretty quickly. And the further you get out from surgery, the more you can tolerate (I can eat anything now except super fatty meals - e.g., fried chicken and French fries would make me gag, even now). It was a much easier recovery than I ever thought it would be - and it was an excellent decision for me to have the surgery. My life is about 1000% better now!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
