I am just over 1 year post vsg and I have not hit my goal. My weight loss is VERY slow/stalled right now. I have been feeling extremely discouraged; however, I am still working very hard to lose the remaining pounds.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Did you change your diet to speed up weight loss? If so, how? What is your diet? What are your macros like?
Do you have any tips to help me reach my goal?

Thanks!

Girl, you have lost almost. 100lbs in a year! Congratulations. I am the same starting weight as you and I am finding it much harder to lose then expected. I’m a newbie at this so I don’t have much advice. I hope I’ve lost 100lbs a year from now though!

Look more closely not just at calories but also the carbs and sugars and fats

I agree with above! You body is fighting back and you need to fight back harder! A few things that worked for me at the end was to do some Intermittent fasting, Mix up my calorie intakes one day really low next day 1200. Worked for me

took me 18-20 months to lose all of mine. Second year was slow as molasses, but I kept at it. I ate around 1000-1200 kcal/day from right around the one-year mark until I hit maintenance at 18-20 months out.

I chart my progress in a spreadsheet. For me it helps to visualize the rate of loss better. Weight fell off for the first 6 months without me even having to try I lost right at 100lbs. The next 7 months I have lost an additional 18 lbs and am now just 18 lbs from the goal weight. Expect the rate of loss to slow down as you lose weight as your body becomes more efficient. Its all about the amount of deficit you are putting your body into. When you are 120lbs overweight its easier to create that deficit compared to only 20lbs overweight. Its not realistic to expect the rate of change to remain constant.

You have to work harder and harder to lose at a constant rate the closer you approach your goal. So either work that much harder or be prepared to take the small losses and inch toward the goal. I hope this perspective helps.

This comment is not a “nananabooboo” kind of comment. I am 3 1/2 months out of surgery. Vsg on feb 17. I’ve lost 70 pounds. I know, great. Yes, I want to lose weight. It was the whole point. I do not want to STOP losing either, BUT losing this much this fast has been ALARMING. It has also caused some weird chin sagging. There’s benefit to slow and steady. Rebuilding your mental awareness that accompanies good life long habits. It will give your skin a chance to spring back. I’m going to need some after care plastics. I’m not looking forward to more surgery. I hope this was a positive message.

actually, at a certain point, you're going to have loose skin regardless of how fast or slow the weight comes off. If you've been significantly obese for awhile, that skin is really stretched. I don't know how much taking it off slowly will help, to be honest. If it does, it may not be by much.

I did my initial consult with plastic surgeon in mid Feb. Going to try to get insurance to deem it medically necessary because of the rashes being caused with the loose skin. My goal is to be at goal weight once I go in for the procedure and coming out of it I will be a good amount below it.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
