Hey y’all,

So I’m new to the process. I just saw the physician today but I still have reservations. My weight is currently 291 and I’m 5’5. I really want the surgery but I’m scared.

Do you regret having the surgery?

Do’s and Don’ts?

Anyone ever hear of a correlation between gastric sleeve/gastric bypass and pancreatic cancer?

Any tips at all would be appreciated

thank you!

1. Regret - NO you only have two choices Stay the way you are and die with disease and miss out on years of your life and events...... Or get the tool to help you get healthy! Zero Regrets

2. Do and Dont - Do understand this is a journey and a lifestyle change. You have to be able to do it physically and menatlly. Dont think this is the 100 percent solution it is not! IT is just a tool and you need the whole workshop in order. Mind body and attitude!

Tips..... Read this site and get mentally ready for the changes. You will have to kick your addiction to food and eating unhealthy, You will get healthy and your life will change. But it is not a easy journey but the reward is off the scale worth it.

Ask away

DO: Take a BEFORE picture!! A lifetime of hiding from cameras, and now I wish I had a before pic for comparison!

Just getting to the last stages of preparing for my surgery next week, though I've really been preparing for the last 6 months. It has been a process, no kidding. All of the bad habits I've had to break, and now that surgery is just around the corner I feel like it is way harder to NOT give in to temptation. BUT, I wouldn't change anything so far; I'm down 60 pounds and am ready for this additional tool in my arsenal to get me the rest of the way!

Do peruse this site, particularly the thread about getting in the headgame. The quicker you get that process going the easier it is going to be as you progress.

Do know that there will be great days and there will be horrid days. It's the way of life and this isn't going to change that, unfortunately.

Do realise this is a tool and not the be-all end-all fix for a lifetime of bad food choices. Like any tool, you have to use it in order for it to become more effective.

Do take pictures and measurements! Measurements are great for when the scales don't seem to be moving!

Do realise that you are not alone in this journey! There are lots of us going through the same things. Come out and read and engage; it is a huge motivation!

Don't give up! You started this journey for a reason; write it down somewhere that you can pull it out when you are having a bad moment, or questioning why you chose this.

Welcome to the journey and welcome to the site! Both will change your life for the better!

no regrets at all - I'd do it again in a heartbeat. In fact, I'd do it every year if I had to!

I've never heard of any correlation between WLS and pancreatic cancer. Most people have no complications at all or only minor ones that are easily fixable. And I've never heard of people getting pancreatic cancer from it. Once in a great while you'll hear of something like a bowel obstruction (this would be considered a major complication, but fortunately, it's very rare), but cancer, no. I've never heard or read about that anywhere, and I've been pretty active in the bariatric community for the last six years. On the other hand, I was facing all kinds of complications when I weighed 373 lbs, including an early death, most likely. WLS very likely saved my life.

ONLY REGRET I didn't do this 10 years earlier.

Do tons of research.

Don't listen to others opinions on WLS if they are negative make your own decision based on legitimate information.

Which surgery are you looking at?

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
