Complications back in the US

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I’m THIS close to booking my surgery with Fr. Alvarez in Mexico. The final thing holding me up is, what if there’s a long term complication that needs to be addressed by a US doctor and my insurance refuses to cover it because my sleeve was done in Mexico? Anyone have experience with this or thoughts on the matter?

My concern would not be about insurance but what would happen if there are complications during the surgery or just after and you're still in Mexico?

I know this thread is closing in on 3 years old but I am assuming you are referring to Dr. Guillermo Alvarez @ Endobariatric in Mexico. Dr. Alvarez is an active International member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), an active International Member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and a Member of International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO). His accreditation, affiliation and membership in American Medical Associations should negate any policies of not taking patients who had bariatric surgery in Mexico. If a US Bariatric surgeon refuses to treat you, I would register a complaint with the above Medical Associations (which the US Bariatric surgeons are most likely members, as well.)

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
