Going back to work tomorrow and I’m scared

I’ve been on LOA since my surgery date of 3/3/20. I’ve asked my surgeon to extend my absence as long as I can and I go back to work tomorrow morning.
I work at one of those megabanks where people like me - not in the upper echelon - don’t get to work from home.
I’m considered one of those essential workers that must report to work regardless.
I’m scared. From what I’ve heard moral is super low at my office due to those of us that are forced to go into work.
I live with my family and that includes my 74 year old mother who has diabetes, my brother and his wife and their kids—my niece and nephew—who are 6 and 4 respectively.
I work in metro Atlanta in the same county with the highest amount of cases in all of GA which is Fulton County.
my sister-in-law were in tears earlier today anticipating me going back into the office where I can bring this virus home to my mother - she is whom we all want to protect the most.
I’ve been with my this corporation since 2006. They’ve been really good to me and protected me and helped move me when I was fleeing my abuser from my past DV relationship.
My brother and his wife both have jobs that allow them to work from home. I don’t. I am also grateful that I have a career where I am still going to get a paycheck. So many others are hurting for money right now.

Im just scared and I wanted to say so. I’ll do everything I can to protect my family. But I’m about to go out into this mess. I wanted to say thank you to all those others in essential fields required to stay open and in operation during this pandemic. I’ve had it good for a few weeks. I wish everyone out there stays safe and healthy. May God watch over all of us and our families. ❤️

I do understand your situation. I am also an essential worker. I am an ABA therapist for children with Autism and other developmental disorders. I go into their homes to conduct therapy.

The best suggestion is to make sure you do all the things the CDC recommends, such as frequent hand washing, ect.

I know this would suck, but is there a way for either you, or your mother, to self-isolate within the house while you are back at work? I know some people who still need to work but have vulnerable people at home do this, although I imagine they have homes (upstairs, downstairs) where this is possible.

Mama and I live in the basement which basically a finished in-law suite that is fully functioning home of its own. The rest of my family lives on the next level so there is now where for me or them to isolate.
I don’t know what we will do if I or anyone else in our family catches this devil virus.
But I appreciate you asking. Just praying for health and safety now....

Now under these conditions Slow down, Think before you act, Make sense take you time clean your area and slow down, Dont just re act like you have in the past since most of your work is second nature to you.

Besides hand washing and social distancing. I change out of my work clothes before I see my mother. She is eighty-one. I am an essential worker. I am in defense. Good luck and Aj is right think about your plan for going back don't just react. If you have a plan about how you will act it should calm you. You will feel a bit safer. In the bank I go to they make sure you stay 6 feet away from the tellers by putting a table in front of their areas. I am glad they are keeping them safe.

Cammy, you and your family are in our prayers. Reiterating, all of the safety steps, but first, and always, practice deep breathing to clear your head and calm your nerves. You do all you can, and then ask your higher power (for me that is God) to please guide and protect You and all around you. To please envelop you in a bubble of protection.

From there? You must practice letting go, lest your very energy become sapped and you become vulnerable to illness. You’re too sweet and special to not WIN this! You’ve survived bad situations (as many of us have) You WILL WIN this journey and as a skinny girl no less!!! So happy to hear your employer values you and has been so good to you—a good indication that will be the case now. Please keep us posted!

I feel your pain.....I too am an essential worker. I return to work tomorrow as well after having surgery on 3/2. Normally I'd be glad to return to work, but I work on the trains on the largest commuter rail in NY bringing essential people into work and with all this crazy stuff going on I understand your apprehensiveness. My plan is to remove my uniform and shoes outside of the house and shower immediately as soon as I get home. Be careful and take all the possible precautions you can!

Working in health care at a clinic of maximum care is kind of scary these days. We're still waiting for the big fall out. We have several ICU patients with COVID-19 so far, two of them were referred from another clinic in the country and man their lungs look scary on the CT scan...

This feels so much like only waiting for this sh*t biting your ass. Right now everyone is convinced that every one of us will catch it sooner or later with protection clothing still a problem etc.

My husband belongs to a group of people with higher risk as well. We don't know yet how we're going to handle the situation. Not visiting for maybe several months?

One mustn't think about what could happen. Well, of course the thoughts pop up and anxiety comes in wave. Better not engage with them and stop the catastrophizing.

You guys!!!! After getting home from my first day at work in month...to come home and open my safari for the first time today....I feel so blessed to have so many people I don’t know Physically that care about me.

So I found out today that my bldg that usually holds 300 people is going down to 15 people. Everyone else is going to work from home. Guess who isn’t one of those 275 people—me. But okay, we (my group) are considered the last line of defense. We’re double checking the i’s were dotted and the t’s were crossed as it were. As we are the ones who send out the actual checks and get packages ready and reviewed for UPS and FedEx. I work in auto and home loans.

I picked the wrong time in my career to go for a promotion 8 months ago lol! But I feel better knowing it’ll just be 15 of us there in that bldg and not 300, less exposure.

Tonight when I got home, I stripped buck nekkid lol in the garage and ran into the shower. It’s just Mama and I on the ground floor. I washed up went and put my clean jammies on and headed back out with gloves and a garbage bag to collect my clothes. I Lysol’d everything in my car and my purse and my shoes. I threw my clothes in the washer and I was done.

This will be my routine for the next indefinite time frame. I feel so much gratitude for the health care personnel. They don’t get to do what I just mentioned. They’re treating those with the virus while their families pray for their safety. For all of you essential workers, thank you for going to work today and for all you health care workers...I mean, HEROES-
